We all saw it this year, how the Sharks came out of nowhere to win the Western Conference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grvCRv7y_jc
Here's who I think could be dark horses for next year's finals:
#1: New York Islanders
Despite losing to the Lightning in the semifinals, they got their first series-win in 23 years after a HUGE upset against the Florida Panthers. I think since they have a "little" more playoff experience, they could go even farther next year.
#2: Nashville Predators
Another upset, beating the Anaheim Ducks in 7 games, then losing to the western conference champions the San Jose Sharks in 7 games, they are a strong team. Even though they lost defense-man Shea Weber, they got P.K Subban from the Habs. They definitely have potential to go far, and we all saw that after the won the first round.
#3: Philadelphia Flyers
After ALMOST making a comeback from a 3-0 series deficit on the President's Trophy winners the Washington Capitals, we all saw that the Flyers don't go down easily without a fight. From which could have been a simple series sweep, the Flyers won games 4 and 5 before losing the series in a 1-0 shutout in game 6. This year, they have a lot of good and young talent. I don't think they will make the finals, but they will almost definitely go farther than next year.
BONUS: Toronto Maple Leafs
Why pick the league's worst team in the 2015-2016 season as a potential dark horse for next year's Stanley Cup Playoffs? The got the Anaheim Duck's goaltender, got the first round draft pick, and have TONS of new talent. I wouldn't be surprised if they were extremely successful next year.

Flyers and Leafs no
Islanders will need to improve their defense A LOT to have any chance at the cup
Nashville could, but again, they need do improve their defense |

@TheWDonald
I agree with you, the Panthers should have been put on this list. |

Leafs in and Stars not.
Unless you're assuming the Stars are a favorite.
If not, that's a joke to have Toronto, who are a very young and inexperienced (albeit talented) roster. |
