How this had happened was beyond you. After all these years, you had finally received it, a tip on your father's killers, someone claiming to know who they were and where they are. All you had to do was head to the Wandorvest isles and you'd learn about everything.
But in the middle of the trip, just two days south of the Wandorvest, your ship was caught up in some of the thickest fog you've seen in a while. You stood in the center of the ship but you couldn't see the front or back.
One of your men, a man named Peasley, comes up to you.
"Captain, Niall dropped the compass into the sea, the bloody idiot. Now we can't tell where we're going."
This was not a problem. Niall, your ships navigator, was a bit of a klutz, and so you had always kept two or three spare compasses and maps just in case. You should hurry with getting Niall the compass however, whether you went to collect it yourself or sent one of your men. To the west were siren lands, an automatic no-no. To the east were the lands of the Divine Inquisition, some crazed cult that you didn't wish to deal with right now. |

| "Handle the above crew while I get Niall's compass" I replied, before going out to grab the compass for him, also grabbing a spare map in case he somehow looses it in mere moments after the compass, which is almost to be expected. |

"Aye captain!"
You move your way down the ship to your quarters, where right next to it sat a sleeping merfolk. He was tall, by a human's measure, and by those same measures muscular. He wore odd armor, iron plates with designs of waves and fish carved into it, his spaulders literally made up of sea shells. He had a trident, one that was pretty simple except for the sapphire embedded into the base of the fork. With his green and blue scales, he looked like some twisted knight with scales all over him, which, in concept he was. His name is Teirell, a merman who joined your crew when you were starting. Problem is is that he's lazy, tired, whimsical, and in general just a plain jerk. The only good thing about him is he's a skilled fighter.
As you approach Teirell, finally, wakes up.
"Oh, captain," he says. |

| I shove the compass and map towards him, saying in an annoyed voice "It's been ages since you've done any work, try and stretch your legs once you've given this to Niall, or I'll have to finally send you back to the sea." The last statement was an empty threat, but I knew he got the idea. |

| "Uhh... Okay. Aye aye, I guess," Teirell says, standing and stretching, and after about forever, finally takes the items and starts heading to Niall's station. In the distance the sun begins to set. It won't even be an hour until night. It occurs to you that the ship chef, an elven woman named Taltii, may have something ready. There isn't really much to do while sailing. You can see what's she's cooking, or you can do something like head into your quarters and read a book. |

| I go back over decks and announce that Peasly was going to supervise for the night, and that we are unable to host a meal because of the fog. Ignoring the groans about it, I go down to check if the merman actually delivered the compass and map, and once I found out he did I muttered to myself "That's new" before going to Taltii for a small snack. |

Taltii sees you coming in.
"Captain! Wasn't expecting a visit. Is there anything you need? I have some sour dough bread over there. Not much. Stocks are running low. I'll need to get some more when we reach shore. Perhaps there I can actually cook a stew of sorts for the crew."
You should probably hurry and take the sour dough. Because of the fog, Taltii can't really cook anything and those moments infuriate her. And a mad Taltii means hours and hours of pure ranting. |

| "Thanks for the dough, it's unusual to have such thick fog, and I worry what can happen" I mention, before grabbing some in a small wooden bowl and making my way to my quarters. |

And that is where it all began...
You climb up to the top deck where the door to your quarters was. Up there, you see the crew running about. You wondered what the confusion was until you saw ahead the very faint lights of what you assume to be lamps. Ships were coming. You couldn't see which size or of what make, but they were there, and they were coming. From what you could tell through the fog, there were two.
"Oh, captain!" Teirell says, coming down the steps from where the steering wheel was. "Looks like there's excitement coming our way." |

| Cursing myself for not being more alert, I shout "Man the weaponry! It can either be a stray ship or bloody bandits, but I'm not taking the risk!" Grabbing my gun, I try and alert the crew members in the bowels of the ship. I was not going to let myself have another brush with death, specially when I know others are at risk as well. It brought a few terrifying memories of my father, but I pushed them out of my mind. |

As you run down to the bowels of the ship, a large man that same size and bulk as Teirell, except he's human and he carries a musket on him and not a trident and wears plain clothes and not armor, stops you. It's Oliver, the man you put in charge of managing your cannons, and who always steers the ship when the one you usually put in charge of steering, Valerie, needs a break.
"Woah there captain!" He says. "I'll get the news spread down there. Just tell Valerie to ring the bell if we need to fire."
As Oliver walks down, Niall runs with him. Niall, the navigator, Taltii, and Jason, the ship's doctor, all lack any fighting ability whatsoever so during an attack those three run to the bellows and hide, as their stations, unlike Valerie's, who not only also can't fight but is also mute, aren't necessary for combat unless you expect to be using a whole portion of the sea, which is when you'll need Niall. |

| Going back up to the deck to alert Valerie of the situation, as well as telling her to ring the ship bell once we are required to fire the cannons. (Not much to do atm) |

(Yeah... I'm pressed for trying to find things to do on a ship... On the bright side, I've finally introduced your crew's big names so it may, I stress may, go a lot smoother from now on (Except for Jason but I've mentioned him and his station so we good).)
Valerie nods. Up ahead, the two ships move towards yours. They move to surround you on both sides, and even though they're so close, you can only see the silhouettes of them, preventing you from seeing the emblem on their flag. Your ship's crew seems silent and tense for a moment.
And then it went to the dogs.
The ships, now clearly enemy ships, places boards between yours and theirs. Men come in from them, armed and looking for a fight. Valerie motions to the bell, waiting for your orders. |

| I quickly nob yes, before holstering my gun. Thermite shells would hurt my own ship if I fired, and I grabbed the nearest weapon. "All hands on deck, two raider ships, attack!" I shout. |

You've grabbed a cutlass that someone had left there.
Valerie rings the ship bell. Below you hear the cannons boom, probably Oliver's work as the other two ships begin to rock. Yours suffer some shaking as well as the enemy returns fire.
Peasley has riled up some of the crew in an organized defense against one of the ships. On the other side Teirell stands on one of the boards, releasing a fury of attacks on those trying to cross it. You feel like the ones he just knocked off into the ocean might actually be the lucky ones. But even with these, some of the enemy still gets on board. Some try to climb the stairs to reach Valerie and, not that they know it, you.
There are three approaching enemies. They're dressed rather oddly now that you can see them through the fog. They wear purple clothing and, surprise surprise, purple cloaks. They had pieces of armor on them and their helmets, some mock up of a knight's helmet, you guess, covers their faces. They wore tabards bearing the strangest insignia: A serpentine monster coiled around what you think to be a lyre.
The first enemy make it up and see you. He, you were sure it was a he, yells out a battle cry as he takes out a sword and charges at you. |

I twist and take a step to the right, avoiding any sort of stabbing motion which would be expected, before trying my luck and slamming the pommel into the man's helmet, hoping to disrupt his sense of focus and engaging with his two buddies.
(I would fight, but idk the story and I hope not to disrupt the story line, it's why I've been so vague so far. If you allow me I can elaborate more and take things into my own hands.) |

(Nah, you're doing fine)
Your blow succeeds, knocking the man on the ground. While he struggles to get back up, the second of the three makes the climb. He also seems to be carrying a sword. He saw what you did to his friend and clearly decides to wait for you to attack first. |

| Looking at the man, I quickly make to him before disarming him and grabbing his blade, before attempting to kick him off of the boat. Looking at the other man, I quickly shout "Death!" To distract him before hurling the blade and charging at him to finish off the warrior. |

The man is utterly stunned as his weapon is stolen and you kick him, howeve,r he just barely, barely manages to cling onto the ship. THe first one, starts to get up, however he seems dazed.
The third is likewise shocked by your distraction, but collects his wits at the end, parrying your blow. |

| Only slightly unnerved from the jarring feel you get by basing parried, I quickly twist my wrist and pull backwards in an attempt to disarm him. |

| Onto what you were doing, the enemy allows one hand to let go of his sword in an attempt to punch your gut and force you to back away. |

He misses, trips on a step, and falls first first onto the stairs. He seems to have been knocked unconscious.
You hear a grunt of sorts coming from Valerie. Your first attacker has shifted their focus to her. You second has almost gotten himself back onto the ship. |
