Don't get my wrong, hes pretty good. Not taking anything away from him.
1. The majority of the world doesn't live in a place where they can go and swim to practice whenever they want, and it isn't a thing everyone does anyways, which slims the amount of talent or competition there actually is.
2. He has a TON of competitions he can compete in each Olympics.
Usain Bolt is the FASTEST MAN ALIVE. Its like telling him to run the 100m, then say he can do it again for another gold while running backwards, and once skipping, and another one while side stepping. He gets once chance at an event.
Again, I like Phelps, but he isn't the greatest just because he has 20+ medals. |

Some of the performances he put on in the Beijing Olympics were phenomenal. I get your point but, some swimmers train for 1 event for 4 years, Phelps trained for like 10 and won 8 in 2008.
Considering Usain Bolt hasn't done great outside of the Olympics lately, and Phelps has been consistently dominant, I find his case hard to believe. |

When there are Olympic events fro 100m Skipping for someone to win gold in, let me know.
Too many different ways to swim to where you can win a medal.

The greatest is debatable, everyone is entitled to an opinion.
But a legend, no doubt. |

The fact of the matter is that there are many different swimming styles and phelps is good at every single one of them.
Phelps is the greatest, no question. |

Didn't say Bolt was the greatest. I was making a point of many more events Swimmers have to compete in.
Swimmers will always have the most medals.
I guess I should've said you cant call him the greatest only based on gold medals.
Hes great, you can make the argument that he is the greatest, I just dont think so. |

Everyone has the ability to run.
Not everyone has the ability to swim, and not everyone that can does.
More Events, Less People, more chance for dominance.

There has never been an Olympian who's been this dominant for this long.
Phelps has 21 gold medals. The next closest is a gymnast with 8, after that is a runner with 8.
Of the top 10 total medal winners, only 2 are swimmers. |

You seem to act like you can just switch swimming techniques and stay at the exact same level as your best, which is completely wrong lol.

"You're literally telling me hes not the best Olympian because hes a swimmer and not a runner"
Shouldve read posts above based on medals.
Not what I was saying.
Most people think Phelps is the best simply because he has 20 some medals, and no one else even has 10. He gets to compete in a most of 10 events every Olympics. Most Olympians only have one or two.
Sure every OLYMPIAN has the same amount of time to train.
Everyone can run. Not everyone can swim.
And again to the people who keep saying that Usain Bolt isn't the best Olympian.
I never said he was. Nor did I ever say he was better than Phelps.

sprint runners get the 100, 200, 400, 4x100, and 4x400. most sprint runners dont even do hurdles
sprint swimmers can do any of the 4 strokes for 100, 200, the 200 medley, the 4x100 relays, 4x200 relays
phelps is the greatest because of the fact he can win gold in any of the swim strokes |
