the % operator (finding the remainder) is it done at the same time as division?

No. It's the modulus operator. They literally say "finding the remainder", not the percentage. Don't assume you know everything, geez.
I'm not sure what the order of operations for it would be. Probably after division, but to be safe you should just wrap the expression in parenthesis.
