Name: Vladik Ivok

Age: 32

Race: Eldrin

Vlad has the ability to manipulate others, which he plays off as infallible charisma and charm. This spell mainly rears its head as a means to haggle down a price, or bring up the pay for a job. Sometimes it's used to get others to do Vlad's dirty work.

Occupation: Mercenary, but not by the standard definition. Vladik is a man for hire, someone willing to do most any odd job, from transporting goods, to killing monsters, to assassinating people. If the pay is good, Vlad will do it.

Appearance: Vlad is a tall, well built, intimidating looking man. He is none-the-less very charismatic, which can likely be attributed to his large muscles and attractive accent. Or, more likely is his ability to manipulate with Eldrin magic, but that's besides the point. In terms of specifics, Vladik stands at 6'2 and weighs 210 pounds. He shaved off his horns before going into the profession of man for hire, as to make him a more desirable candidate for potential clients.

His hair is dirty brown, and unkempt, but with bangs trimmed to show his forehead, and short. His travels leave him little room to clean up properly, let alone manage his hair properly. The lower half of his face is characterized by a constant five-'o'-clock shadow, and his expression is often plastered over by a very stern stare, or obnoxiously loud laughter, sometimes in quick succession as someone is scared by Vlad and he quickly moves to reassure them that he is not a threat. Yet.

Vlad dresses in a long, grey tench. He uses this trench coat to carry a variety of things, from extra ammo, to his money, to a variety small nick knacks, and evn knives on occasion. Beneath that, he wears plain t-shirts of various colors. From white, to grey, to brown, and then simple navy blue jeans. He also wears combat boots, just for the hell of it.

Starting Weapon: Dusty Rifle

Biography (optional but encouraged): Small baby born to big mom and big dad in remote woods. Woods are harsh and full of bears. Small baby grows up into medium boy, then finally big man, all while dealing with hardships of remote woods and bears. Big father told little son that their kind is not liked, that is why they live in remote woods. Little son grows up in fear of world. Little son, when grown to big man, faces fear and tries to see the world. Big man is pelted by fruit as soon as he finds civilization. He shaves off horn and tries again. Now he is here.

---

Eldrin Ability:
Mesmerize (costs 10 health if used in or close to combat) - Temporarily manipulate a person's mind to get them to do things they may not ordinarily do. This spell has its limits, however. It cannot be used to force people to do something they are physically incapable of doing, and it cannot be used against strong-minded or exceedingly stupid people. Caution should be taken with using this spell, as forcing a weak-minded person to perform a task too complex can result in their head exploding violently and loudly.

Marksman Abilities (do not require ammunition to use):
Eldrin Dash (10 health) - A short-ranged dash, used to close in towards or move out of the way of enemies. You phase through reality for a moment while dashing and cannot be harmed in the process. When using this ability, your form becomes dark. Onlookers will be able to tell this is an Eldrin ability and will likely figure out your race. Best not to use it in public.

Binding Shot (15 health) - Fire a dark-infused bullet that latches onto an enemy and creates a chain, wrapping itself around the opponent and stunning them for one turn. Opponents that are too strong, or too large, cannot be stunned in this way but will still take damage.

Eldrin's Respite (5 health) - Cast and recover five health each turn for five turns (not including the turn you cast the spell). Taking damage in this time will not interrupt the spell. Health regenerates passively out-of-combat, so you shouldn't need to use this spell at times outside of combat.

Inventory:
Dusty Rifle
6/6 shots - 24 spare rounds
A sheet of paper depicting the face of a grizzled and bearded man, likely in his 40s. Beneath the picture of him are a series of sentence fragments: "Kidnapper! John Daniels! Wanted dead or alive! Will pay for his head or for him tied-up, and for the return of my little girl! 400 credits!"

---

You wash your face in a small puddle, filled with clean water. For a moment, you spot your reflection, and the two scars on your forehead from where your horns once were. You stand from the puddle and look out a bit into the distance. It's about 8:00 in the morning now. You were able to find yourself a nice spot to sleep earlier. You're glad you awoke unscathed.

Peering your eyes out to the distance, you see a cabin made from deep, darkly-colored logs. It has a few windows installed, as well as a warm-looking down. Having asked around in the town you came from, this is the place where you managed to track John Daniels to. He's likely inside at this time, along with the girl you're meant to rescue.

(Forgot to mention: you can only perform one action in combat per turn, but you can perform two actions if the first is you using Eldrin Dash.)

"Heh. Nice cabin, target. Reminds of home." Vlad says under his breath

Vlad checks to make sure his Rifle is fully loaded before slowly moving in to scout around the cabin

You begin moving around the cabin. Looks nice from the outside. Very well-made for a log cabin. You peek through one of the windows and see your target with a young brown-haired girl, around ten years old. She's wearing rather fancy clothing, while your target is dressed extremely plainly in jeans and a white t-shirt. The walls of the log cabin aren't very good at keeping sound from passing through, and you overhear their conversation.

"So the moral of the story is that you should read the fine print of every contract you ever make before you sign anything. Understand?"
"Yes Mr. John. That was a great story! Can we read another?"
"We could, but you told me you want me to make that wooden toy horsey for you."
"Yeah! I want that! Can I watch you make it?"
"Sure, I have the wood collected already,"
"Thank you Mr. John! Um... Mr. John... is it okay if I call you 'daddy?'"
"Oh... well... if that would make you happy..."
"Yay! Thank you daddy!" the girl cheers as she hugs your target and the two go off to a workbench inside the cabin. Your target begins to work on a block of wood.

"See, first we need to sculpt the basic shape like this..."

An interesting turn of events this is, hm?

"Stockholm syndrome maybe?" Vlad begins to think "Eh, does not matter. If he cares for girl, this will be easy job."

Vlad begins to circle the cabin, searching for any other points of entrance besides the front door and the windows

There don't appear to be any points of entry besides the door and windows. If you had something with more firepower, you could probably knock down one of the cabin's walls. Alas, you have no such weapon or tool.

"Front door it is then."

Vlad moves back around to the front of the cabin, peering through windows along the way to monitor the situation.

The two are still by the workbench.
"Can I help you daddy?" the girl asks.
"No no, this knife is sharp. Maybe... when you're a bit older."
"Okay!" the girl responds.

The front door appears to be unlocked.

Vlad takes note of the knife before approaching the door. He noticed no other weapons when peering through, but they might be stashed away or hidden in his cloths.

Vlad checks one last time to make sure the target hasn't moved then counts to three with his fingers. After this, Vlad bursts through the door and aims his rifle at the man inside.

"John Daniels, you will be coming with me now!"

John seems to jump a bit at the sound of you bursting through the door. He doesn't turn when you hear his voice. Instead, he seems to sigh, as though knowing this would eventually happen. Gently, he sets down his carving knife and pats the young girl's head. She looks to be quivering and has latched on to John's leg.

"Daddy, what's happening? Who's that? Are we going to die?"
"No sweetie, you're going to be okay," John says, kissing the girl's forehead, "You have to go back to your real dad now though."
"But you're my real dad! I don't like that other man! He's mean to me!" the girl cries out as she buries her crying face into John's leg. Gently, ever so gently, John nudges the girl from his leg and turns to face you.

"Does he want Daisy back too?" John asks.

"He does." He responds coldly

Vlad's gaze turns to the little girl, who seems quite distraught over what's happening. He loosens the grip his finger has on the trigger, and lowers his gun slightly.

"However, we may strike deal."

"Oh, I don't imagine we'll be able to reach any kind of deal," John confesses, "I built everything in this house myself, including the walls. I don't have any money, I spent the last of it getting the rights to the land here. All you mercenaries care about is money right? I don't have any."

"Listen, target. I will take you and girl back to client if that is what you want. However, I will offer you chance to save girl. Tell me what you have, coin or not, and I will tell if it is worth striking deal."

"Well..." he says, looking down at your gun, seeming to note its age and condition.
"If you... leave that gun with me for awhile, I could make you a better stock and forestock. Out of wood, of course, but I think they'd be more comfortable than what you have now. Not to insult your gun or anything..."

You see the girl shaking, and now she's taken hold of John's leg again.

Quest Started: The Price of Life
You've arrived at your target's cabin, but the client's daughter seems fairly happy where she is now. He's offered to upgrade your gun for you, but doesn't look like he'll put up much of a fight if you decide to take him to your client.

"This sounds reasonable to me. If you can make Ivana into better weapon, I will gladly accept."

Vlad lowers his weapon so that it points towards the ground, and eases his gaze.

"I will leave Ivana at door step. Come out in three minutes and take her. Double cross me, and others will come find you. Do you understand?"

John nods in understanding.
"Thank you," he says, patting Daisy's head.
"It'll take a few hours. Are you going to be waiting outside or going somewhere else?" he asks after swallowing a gulp.

"I enjoy nature, so I will walk around woods until you are done. Make my Ivana shine, friend."

Vlad exits the cabin and stands at the doorstep for a moment to glance around at the trees surrounding him. When he is content with that, Vlad unloads his weapon and sets it at the doorstep, then heads left into the woods.

You spend awhile wandering through the woods. It's a very peaceful place, detached from the bustle of the town you reside in, Lethersfell. The song of birds fill the air, along with the occasional sound of rabbits hoping through the crunching grass. Time passes, and you're fairly certain that John must've finished with your gun by now.

"It cannot take much longer than this to replace stock, 'eh?"

Vlad begins to make his way to the cabin, using various large rocks and odd trees he had spotted during his walk as a means of finding his way

You arrive back at the log cabin. The door's still unlocked, so you head inside. Resting against a wall is your gun, with a new varnished wooden stock and a matching forestock. The old parts of the gun that were just replaced are on the ground beside it.

"Don't know if you wanted to keep those old parts or not. I don't think you'll be able to find someone willing to buy them," John says. You turn your gaze to him and meet his brown, forlorn eyes. He has a large pack on the floor next to him, unzipped.

"That man'll probably send someone else. We're packing up and we'll have to try to find some place new. It's a lot more dangerous in Restora than it used to be with all these monsters coming out. Hope we'll make it somewhere."

Vlad walks over to his gun and picks it up. He puts the stock against his shoulder and looks down the sights.

"This stock feels nice, you did good job."

Vlad loads the weapon and then leans it against his shoulder

"But we are not finished yet, friend. If you will trust me, I have plan that will get me reward I was offered and free you and girl to live here peacefully. Will you listen?"

He stands up from his kneeling position and looks at you. You notice Daisy is in bed asleep.
"I'll listen," he says, though with some level of inquisitiveness in his voice.

"Is simple plan, not hard to understand. This is dangerous times, many monsters roam world. Little girls are very tasty treat for monster. We say that I found you, but on way back we were attacked by big monster. You fought bravely to protect little girl, but it was not enough. Little girl was eaten before we could kill monster. We tell client this story, I get money for finding and bringing you to client, and client will absolve you of crime for protecting girl. If he does not want to absolve you, I have little trick that will convince him. If that does not work, and client calls for your head, I will return here and find little girl good home. She will no longer be hunted by client, and can live good life with kind people. Does this sound like reasonable plan to you?"

John thinks for awhile, then nods.
"Better than trying to move somewhere else," he tells you as he walks over to Daisy and shakes her awake.
"I'm going out for awhile, but I'll be back soon, okay?"
"Okay daddy..." she says with a yawn, "do we still have to move?"
"I hope not. Go back to sleep now," John says, kissing Daisy's forehead and tucking her in as she rolls over and falls back asleep.

He steps away from the bed and looks back at you.
"Okay, let's get this over with."

Quest Updated: The Price of Life
You've hatched a plan to convince your client back in town not to kill your target. You're not sure if it'll work, but if all goes well, John will be able to go free and you'll get paid.

"Alright friend, let us go quickly. Better to not be out in darkness for long."

Vlad straps Ivana around his shoulder and steps out of the cabin. He holds the door open to allow John to follow after.
