Every time I want to make a game, I get the some of the basic scripting done and maybe a few models, then I call it quits and never start again. How do you guys keep your drive?

I usually lose motivation after working on it once or twice cause I know the only games that get in the front page are the clickbait trash ones.

I've had this same issue in the past. I still have this issue honestly.

The way I deal with it now is by working in sections for a creation.

For example, let's say I want to make a FPS game. I would split up that idea into different sections such as guns, GUIs, gameplay scripting, maps, etc.

After I've made different sections, I'll work on one section until I get bored. Once I get bored with that section I'll move onto the next one and work on that a little. I just keep following that pattern until the entire creation is finished.

Of course sometimes you've just gotta grind it out, which can get very annoying at times. When you've got times like those, just think about how amazing the final product will be and take small breaks when necessary.

While you're gonna wake up AND WORK HARD AT IT!

Tips:
-Make sure you like your game idea, if you don't like it even by a smudge, this could easily discourage you
-try to recruit a team, these members can often provide stress relief by taking away some of the workload while maybe adding some comic relief to a really boring situation
-MUSIC, I can't stress this enough, people often get bored fast since there really isn't anything going
-Finally, pace yourself. Don't try to make a game in a week, just try to build as much as YOU want, not what you need to, and you'll hopefully be fine
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, if you're afraid of your game not being a robux making machine it's fine. Roblox does recognize good talent and they try to showcase this, I mean, have you ever seen a freemodeled tycoon get attention from Roblox? Almost never. Just try to make the game as best as it can be.

>They only give more attention and recognition to already known developers. Just look at the events to see that.

A lot of the time people try think of a game that could get "lots of robux" but you should be developing a game that you really like and would enjoy making
Sometimes I lose motivation from not knowing a certain scripting thing, even after trying to learn how to do it (or not even knowing how to do it at all)
It's funny actually, I started making a game once and gave up because of a few key stuff that I had no idea how to do
About a year later when I randomly learn it, I realise that I could continue the game, and then I go on

But I always tend to create a bunch of games, and never finish it - and when I did create (to my belief) a 'fun' game, it never got popular

Right now, I'm currently working with a friend of mine. I do the scripting, he builds. I can't remember who suggested doing different parts like in sections, because that really helps.

*Raises hand*

But yeah, I've found the sections method can really help people lol.

(Shameless self promotion time)

You seem like a more profressional developer. Would you like to join Otherworldly Builders (my primary group)? It's a community of developers of all skill levels for the purpose of sharing creations, getting feedback on creations, receiving tips to better your skills, discussing ideas, stuff like that. Started it yesterday so it's still pretty small, but I'd say 48 people in one day is decent.

But yeah, if I really want the community to grow quicker it'd be nice to have a few more serious developers join. If you do decide to join send me a PM with an example of your scripting / building / designing so I can rank you appropriately.

I wish I could give some really inspiring and useful tips but I have the same problem. Work on one thing then loose interest. I've been working on something lately tho and I recently found "Nature's Hold" by ClassicalMethods and its just amazing how much time and patience someone can put into a free to play game about legos. So my goal is to try and build something just as good if not better in 2 years or so. I don't think loosing interest is really bad, as long as you gradually get better at what you do.

Willpower. Also, scripting will give me experience on programming languages, and that way, if I take programming classes when I reach high school (or any grade) then I'll have a little bit of experience even if it is a different language from Lua. Sorry that I kinda repeated myself.

I'm sure every developer loses motivation on multiple games they try to make. I am the same, and I feel the biggest thing would be make something, and get people to play it, test it, etc. As you're making it. If you players like it, then that motivates you to continue work. If players don't like it, then it's time to try something new. No point in making a game that won't get players. Also, before you start, have a plan on a word document, or somewhere to look off. Don't try making some huge game, with millions of maps, etc. Start of with the most basic of games. You just want to get the basic game down, so you can get feedback from players.

I work on whatever part of my game interests me at the moment, working until the feature is either done or I get bored and move onto something else. If scripting is giving me trouble I build. If building is giving me trouble I script.

I usually work until im bored, take a break for a few hours maybe.

Than if i get super burnt out i will just stop working in a whole until i feel like i can come back and do better.

The only real piece of advice i can give is do and try all you can for your current project, try not to get stuck in the loop of making crap things for your current project and think like *Ill just do better on the next one* Or just waiting for the next project.

Just like my inspiration Monty oum once said while he will still with us " I do believe thoroughly giving everything you got with what your doing at the time "
