| Or they could've just done nothing. They're 2.5 games out of the wildcard for crying out loud. They were 54-50 last year at this time. |

Close to the trade deadline, there's two sides.
Buyers: For a playoff push, they try to go after players who non-contending teams are trying to give up, but give up prospects.
Sellers: Try to trade big-name players with little or no years remaining on their contracts for a prospect haul for the future.

Or teams who are right smack dab in the middle and do absolutely nothing.

| No. They've been playing above expectation with the injuries. |

You're still not dethroning the Nats like last season. Bruce is no Cespedes.

Let's take a look at the mets move getting Jay Bruce
Jay Bruce will be under the Mets control next year presumably, as the Mets have a team option. Cespedes has a player option to leave. If Cespedes leaves Bruce can hold the gap while Cespedes has left for a year.
We get Bruce, a strong hitter, for the rest of this year and next year. We miss out on Nimmo for 4 seasons. We have Nimmo and Conforto, we don't need both. nor do we have room for both. This deal makes a lot of sense and it's not like we're throwing away our future. |

| ^ Oh, and the Nationals will be dethroned. They're going to choke. |

| Nationals aren't proven either. Who knows? Mets could catch fire. Never know. |

^ And at the deadline, the Mets had the same exact record last year. Bruce leads the NL in RBIs, and the Mets struggle with RISP. hint hint nudge nudge.
hopefully this lucroy deal happens too |

The Nats are not going to choke again. Matt Williams is gone. Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better, though.

| Why are you directing the point of this forum when I brought up a good point about the Bruce trade? It's unlikely the Nationals will lose the lead, but it is not impossible. 6.5 games is not impossible to pick up especially when you get to play the Nationals in a handful of games. |
