Here's something really cool you can do. Before turning on or off your computer, unplug the ethernet cable. This way it can't auto-update.

| It freezes at mup.sys at startup, there was no other easy way to fix it so I'm using a CD to do it. |

@traxx I looked it up. Turns out it is something to do with the driver host process service. It is a critical system file to the OS. Without it, none of the drivers work. That includes RAM drivers, Hard disk drivers, nothing.
