it's pretty much just Fallout 3 with a different location and more features
though that's not much of a bad thing, since it technically does make it better than Fallout 3, there's still not much to it |

It vastly improves on many systems.
Skills like repair and science become very useful for crafting new ammo types Companions have a fantastic UI (why'd they remove it in 4, I'll never know) The dialogue was much more extensive (and better written) The gunplay was improved upon with aim down sights added There were more feats to choose from and traits allowed for better character customization.

Some random guy/gal gets headshot by mafia wannabe, somehow survives the headshots and being in the middle of a radioactive desert before passerby finds hteir limp form next to Vegas, everyone in the tiny town he wakes up in somehow likes them because they shot a few bandits.
The whole story is reliant on MacGuffins, that and anyone who is somewhat relevant to the plot has plot armor and cant be killed until they serve their sole purpose in the already ''meh'' story.
Only interesting characters come out of the dlcs, with the main story consisting of a wannabe Julius Ceasar who got red-pilled heavily, tuxedo guy who shot you in the head, bunch of soldiers who cant do anything and requires some random guy to do everything for them, and some weird conspiracy guy who was pulled out of a Tom Clancy book.
Gameplay is literally Fallout 3 but with revolvers and varmint rifles instead of 9mms and hunting rifles. |

"Skills like repair and science become very useful for crafting new ammo types"
although I don't use this feature, that is good
"Companions have a fantastic UI (why'd they remove it in 4, I'll never know)"
The UI is easy to use
"The dialogue was much more extensive (and better written)"
I don't pay much attention to the dialogue unless it's instructions for a quest, or describing something
"The gunplay was improved upon with aim down sights added"
but not all weapons use ironsights, which is disappointing
"There were more feats to choose from and traits allowed for better character customization."
Feats, what do those even do?
More traits? yes there is more traits |

I don't remember Fallout 3 having a 9mm pistol |

"somehow survives the headshots"
People survive headshots a lot in real life, it's certainly possible.
"radioactive desert"
Desert isn't radioactive, the mojave has very little radioactivity
"passerby"
You mean Victor, the robot that house made follow the courier to ensure delivery of the platinum chip. It's not coincidence the courier was saved, he was being followed.
"they shot a few bandits."
A few bandits means a lot to a small town, the powder gangers would've extorted the shops and tavern if they had their way. The courier united the town and killed them, they're thankful towards him for that.
"The whole story is reliant on MacGuffins"
The platinum chip is the only item that can be called MacGuffin, and even then it's not important to three factions out of four, it's really only important to house and he can still succeed without it. The chip is a plot device to get the player to vegas and meet the various factions.
"anyone who is somewhat relevant to the plot has plot armor"
Every single NPC in the game can be killed at any point, apart from yes man, but he technically just jumps to another body and he cannot be killed as he's a computer program.
"Only interesting characters come out of the dlcs"
That's personal opinion and in my opinion incorrect, though the dlcs had great characters.
"wannabe Julius Ceasar"
Caesar based his empire on Rome, Rome shaped western civilization from a barbaric land to what it became today, Caesar sees a barbaric land and decides to follow an example he knows works. Caesar is also a lot more brutal than Rome was, he understands he has a timelimit and his empire will fall upon his death, his methods are effective and evil but he does it because he thinks it's best for the world in the long run, even if he does not see the benefits. He also lives in poverty amongst his men, he is not a rich leader of rome, he is a common man trying to give the illusion of greatness and power. Caesar is one of the better characters in the game.
"tuxedo guy who shot you in the head"
A power craving man trying to overthrow his leader and gain absolute power, it's a pretty common trope but it's well written and Matthew Perry does a great job on the voice work. You also can learn from the game that his peers in the tops don't share his opinions, you can have them turn on him because they're loyal to house. It's interesting and shows why Benny relies on yes man, because he isn't very good at inspiring loyalty in those below him.
"bunch of soldiers who cant do anything and requires some random guy to do everything for them"
The NCR has a lot of interesting characters, my favourite being Chief Hanlon, a ranger that reports on fake attacks and deaths at the hands of the legion because he doesn't want the war to continue, he doesn't like seeing his soldiers die so he makes false reports to try and make the NCR leaders pull out of the mojave. It reflects real war and how commanders often see hundreds of soldiers die under their command and begin to hate the war they were once so passionate about fighting.
"Gameplay is literally Fallout 3 but with revolvers and varmint rifles instead of 9mms and hunting rifles."
It's the same engine and they focused on story and world in their 18 month development time, they had a smaller budget and team and couldn't improve everything.

Skyrim didn't get old as fast, neither did Oblivion
But those games have more colors and actually look good |

Skyrim and Oblivion are more action games than RPGs, perhaps you don't like RPGs?

Well whatever they did, they did it better
But still though, Fallout New Vegas could have been more colorful, it would of made it easier to play it longer |
