As is the norm with Early Access games, ESPECIALLY space games (Scam Citizen comes to mind) another game turned out to be a scam. "Starbound" is its name, "Scambound" will forever be its nickname. The development was HORRIBLY slow as well. Anyways, Funnily enough, this game has managed to be inferior to the Beta Versions on Release.
None of the things they Promised were actually Added. "Racial Bonuses", for instance, did not come. What's more, however, the game was actually Dumbed Down for Release. For some unknown reason All the Racial Weapons weapons, ship AI and such were removed along with a horrible amount of Items. Grind, grind, grind. That is the game. At least it doesn't have Microtransactions like "Scam Citizen", though. 5,000$ for a single ship, LMFAO!!!
Anyways, the game is not Important. What's important is that We, as the Consumers make sure not to buy Early Access games... But If You WERE scammed, the best thing you can do is Shake the "Buyer's Remorse" effect off and Tell it like it Really is. Saying stuff Like "Oh, GTA V took 6 years to complete, It's normal" even though the game is A Piece of Crap Deathmatch with Thirst and Hunger added helps no one. Blind Praise does nothing but Make people Complacent. You must always Supply Criticism for that is What Pushes people to Improve. This is why EA games are So Easy to scam in: Lack of Pressure.
Oh, BTW, the release version is 5 USD cheaper than the Early Access version, so you basically paid more to play an unfinished crap version that is actually better than the release version. |

| I'd say Killing floor 2 is a lot worse. They promised that the game would be done at the end of 2015 and there's still a lot content missing. It's like they're giving up on the game. |

I'm sorry for posting this But I want to state how much I DESPISE Scam Citizen and its Community that actually DEFENDS it. There are like 100 ships they SELL, YET THERE IS STILL NO GAMEPLAY THAT YOU CAN HAVE FUN WITH IN THE GAME.
To be able to fly all of the Ships, which is the POINT of the game, you have to pay a Whopping 15,000 USD. Yes, an unfinished piece of crap with No Gameplay is charging 15,000 USD for you to be able to fly all of the Ships in the game. LMFAO!!! This game will be Pay-to-Win, make no mistake. People that pay money will have an Advantage, and the ones that don'T will have to Grind 500 hours to get some piece of crap ship. WORTHLESS.
This is not acceptable.

.... Are you stupid? How can it be a scam when they're not actually scamming you?
They're gonna keep on updating the game. The 1.0 update isn't the last one, it was simply the update that took the game out of early access. |

It may as well be one. Look at Terraria on release and compare it with Starbound. Terraria had an ENORMOUS amount of content, and even though Starbound was in development for 3+ years it's STILL stagnant, to say the least. It actually DECLINED on release.

Still, it's not a scam. The developers said that they would continue to update it even after it left early access.
And even without all of the content that they promised it's fun to play. To be honest, I find Terraria boring but not Starbound. |

I'm not ruining anyone's fun apart from Perhaps the Scammers'. I'm warning people that Early Access games NEVER work out.

''None of the things they Promised were actually Added.''
-crew members
-better ui
-better combat
-expanded and easier farming mechanics (Actual crop farming, not loot farming)
-more biomes
-revamped pet system
-revamped techs and abilities
-better lore and story
-more quests
-more generated dungeons and villages
-expanded hub area
-a lot more things in general and bug fixes
''For some unknown reason All the Racial Weapons weapons, ship AI and such were removed along with a horrible amount of Items. Grind, grind, grind. That is the game''
ship ai was useless to begin with, there is no need for it considering all it does now is allowing you to report and accept a select few quests.
Also no sure what you are doing in the game, not 6hrs into the game and i already filled an entire room of chests full of diamonds and high-tier ores (given how common they are on dangerous and extreme planets, something you would know if you actually play the game).
Also, good luck on becoming an english teacher since you type like an edgy 9 y/o dictator.

@riki: First off, I don't just wish to be an English Teacher, I full on want to be an English Professor. I don't type Like this Out of Ignoranc'e, I simply dont care in the Internet. I can type perfectly in real
TL;DR the rest. The game fails I'll copy paste my very own review, a more in-depth Version. This will no doubt convince you.
I'll be honest here, if you've never heard of starbound before, and you like the idea of a sci-fi sandbox survival-ish game, then you'll probably enjoy starbound. I however am giving this a thumbs down, for reasons I shall go into.
Long ago, in the early access days of starbound, players glimpsed what was a relatively complete game that was clearly a framework for something greater. Something complex. Hidden behind it's grid-based construction/mining engine was a surprisingly complex universe, complete with six unique races all of which had their own history, adversities, asthetic style and personality. For once it seemed like the character's species was actually going to matter, with even the descriptions of food items hinting that different species would have to eat different food, which is a very cool idea in a survival game. This type of complexity was, for me, what set starbound apart from other games in the genre, it wasn't just a sandbox, it was it's own world with conflicting cultures and people.
The earliest sign was that racial bonuses (abilities unique to what species your character was) was planned to be in the next update. These bonuses were later changed to be tied to the race's armoursets, where wearing the full set (head, torso, leggings) of a race's armour would confer it's bonus. This was apparently done for the sake of balance, and keeping each of the races equal. Sure, I thought, but to this day racial bonuses are still not part of the game.
Starbound's development has been slow. Very, very slow. I was ok with this, as it was the developer's first game, and after dabbling in game dev myself I am aware that it can be a very difficult thing to do. Things were fine at first, a slow creep of new assets and features, adding more content to the world's random-gen system, etc. Everything you'd expect from an early access title.
However, somewhere during development, something changed.
Everyone was hype for the next big update (as updates were incredibly rare) and it'd hit, sure there was all this cool new stuff they'd shown off in screenshots, but they would always come with a number of game-breaking bugs that would severely impact gameplay, and would sometimes take months to be fixed. But the most bizarre part to me was that CF would often just cut assets entirely from the game. Items, furniture, gone. no explanation given. Just gone, and for a game about exploration, collection and building, this seemed like a very odd move.
The last few updates leading up to 1.0 were the worst offenders at this. The previous diversity and characterisation of the game's six races were severely stripped away, racial weapons, and ship AI were removed for seemingly no reason, which is very strange considering the racial AI often featured in the game's devblog. This, along with the removal/altercation of several other features (the game's UI being one of them) pushed things over the line for me. I had hope, I had patience, but I look upon the finished product that is the 1.0 build currently on sale here and can't help but feel utterly disappointed.
In summary, what first appeared to be a surprisingly complex twist on the survival sandbox genre was dumbed down to rush it for release. Also, the game costs $5 less now. It's nice I paid extra to experience this disappointment.
There are actually a number of other issues I could go into as to why I'm giving this a thumbs down, from kickstarter spending to the developer's reaction to criticism, but this review is already long enough.

@riki: Lmao of course they're going to work on it: THEY SOLD IT AS A GAME. That's what they Got paid to do. Them working on Stardew Valley in the first place while starbound is THIS bad shows how much they care about Starbound: none.
Terraria has MUCH more content than Starbound, much more things to Progress to. All starbound has is worlds which is basically "teleprot from biome to biome". You cannot in good faith think starbound has more content.
