Alright, so it's been a large amount of time since I've posted anything on this forum. I'm having a very good morning so I thought I would humor some of you with an anecdote about my perspective on this coming election, as I've actually reached an age where I'll be participating in it.
Let me ask you something: What do you think is the strongest thing the president can do?
You might think it's "declaring war" but that actually has very little affect on our government, war is actually good for our industries that produce things to fight in those wars, and clearing a little bit of population in cannon fodder is always good too. You might think it's the ability to pardon the crooked members of government, and the effect on history these pardons have dealt.
But the president's strongest power is his ability to choose supreme court justices, and considering one just died and two are probably going to die within the next president's term, there's a lot of tension over who that next president is going to be. So let's consider who exactly was contending for these spots.
In one of the parties there were 12 people, one of which who I probably don't have to mention for you to know who I'm talking about entered the race seemingly as a parody of the election. But in time that specific member of this party sated a very specific mildly ignorant vision that a large portion of our country identifies with. In a race where 11 of the candidates seemingly stumbled over everything, and mostly neutral conservative youth watched as their ideal party crumble the future of this organization was set into question.
In the other party, the election was split between two people, one of whom is significantly more popular with a small portion of people. The party almost seems to be another case of "Good vs. Evil" in the sense that the media tries to display the candidates in different lights to encourage people to vote for either side. But in response to the sight of the dramatic state of the other party, people felt more pressured to go with the side with more momentum.
Now whatever implications I seem to have made, I don't endorse any of these people. Honestly I'm disappointed with the lack of leadership that is supposed to be exhibited in our Chief position. The fact that most people are seriously this naive to actually trust any of these people is astounding. So it comes to the question of: "You have to choose at least one, there isn't really a Good/Evil candidate, so just choose who you think will do the best job and be kind to the most people" |

Presidents can't declare war. They can only send the military out for, I believe, 90 days, and then needs approval from congress. Pretty sure Congress has to approve Justices as well.
A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. |
