| They have to be relatable but unique, archetypes but well-rounded, troubled but able to solve their problems, and deep but easy to understand. |

I dunno. Just do something that you like, make it something other people will like, and then try to keep a bare minimum of change. Honestly, after a few page or so of roleplaying with them my characters kinda loose their design and they go all gaga all over the place.
Except one... But that one was my personality with a times ten modifier to the phase "thinks he's funny but is actually obnoxious." |

| They have to be really unique and totally not archetypes. They also have to be super troubled and deep and above the comprehension of their stupid parents because parents just don't get teens, do they? Also, "life is pointless" and "give me attention" are two things that are their life motto. |

In my opinion, they don't have to have a sad story but, whether it's for a story or an RP, they do need some kind of drive. They need to be relatable, and if that includes some archetypes or cliches, intentional or not, it isn't a bad thing. Those things aren't bad if you do them well. Lazy cliches are bad cliches. I also think part of what makes a character relatable is some vulnerability. Again, that doesn't have to come from some uber sad sob-story, but to have a character that isn't perfect is, in my opinion, pretty important.
But as someone who hasn't RPed properly in some time (roblox isn't great, chatango is gross[er than it was], and I don't know any other places to meet RPers), you should take my opinion with approximately a grain of salt. |

"make it something people like"
the joker from the dark knight is one of my favorite characters of all time and he was certainly not someone you would like
regardless i really have never built a character that's been one of the most iconic figures in a roleplay

| Birm, I don't mean like as in you think he's a great person. I mean like as in you think it's an interesting person. You don't need to be nice to be interesting. |

Okay, all my RP experience is from 2010ish, so I am coming from more a general writing standpoint, but I think there are two important aspects of making sympathetic characters people will like. The first is having qualities like those of yourself or others; essentially making them relatable. The second is having that character do something admirable that people wish they could do.
For a villain/antagonist role things change a little, with the main focus shifting towards them believing their actions are justified. Simply put: no one thinks they're evil.
I could go on for hours, but those are the bare bones basics... eww, aliteration. Anyways, -Cryo out. |

The accurate characterization of the Joker is the only thing good about that movie. |

The first part is giving them a definable personality. How do they act when around others, and how do they act when alone? What are their morals? What makes them, them?
After you've figured out their personality, flesh them out. Make them feel like an actual person, not just someone made to portray a specific trait. Keep on developing them.
Finally, once you've figured them out and made them feel like a person, play with them and their personality. Put them in a situation where they wouldn't do what they normally do. Figure out far their personality and principles will go.
Of course, all of this is just my own opinion. Different people have different ways of making characters interesting.

No Birm, that bio is awful.
You forgot the completely forced love-triangle that nobody actually cares about and yet takes up at least half of the RP that's supposedly an action movie. |

Just be yourself. Music is a second part of my life. I use it when I'm playing, and I'm being stalked a lot...
