But when someone brings up vaccines, everyone is in complete agreement about how they think vaccines are great.

Well yeah... Even if vaccines DID cause autism (they don't), people are no longer dying of polio or measles

It's because they are great.
Vaccines, while they can prevent some risks in those with weakened immune systems (this only applies to live-pathogenic vaccines), do way more good than harm. The immunoglobulin-based ones can be even better, seeing as they present no risk of accidental infection of the host. Modern-day vaccines have very few (if ANY) drawbacks.

And on top of that, the only drawbacks to vaccines are either very minor, very rare, or not just applicable to vaccines.
Vaccinations can cause a little redness or swelling around the injection site as leukocytic cells (most notably, the dendritic cells and macrophages) some to investigate. Since many leukocytes cause inflammation and swelling while under attack, that's perfectly normal.
In some VERY rare cases, people can have an allergic reaction to a vaccination. The nurses who administer the vaccines are typically trained in how to deal with such a reaction though, so it's something you never really have to worry about. Anaphylaxis can be very fatal, but it's very manageable if you use an epi-pen soon enough. This isn't something that's even exclusives to vaccines though; you're at risk of an allergic reaction with any medication. It's just a risk you have to be willing to take.
There's no reason to NOT like vaccines. The benefits far outweigh the drawbacks (if you could even consider them drawbacks).

Vaccines cause immunity.

You were autistic already for being against vaccines.

And I guess I'll address the elephant in the room while I'm here; the whole vaccines causing autism controversy.
To put it simply, there is absolutely NO correlation between vaccines and autism. Thimerosal is a mercury-based preservative, and it's been widely regarded as being the root of autism in vaccines. There were many studies conducted on it in the early 2000's. Between 1999 and 2001, they lowered (and even removed in some cases) the levels of thimerosal. There was no fluctuation at all whatsoever; vaccines, more specifically thimerosal, do NOT cause autism.
I'm sure that's something everyone knows by now, but it was worth addressing.

"YAY NOW A FLAME WAR ABOUT RELIGION, VACCINES AND POPCORN! WOOT WOOT!"

A flamewar about the validity of anti-vaccine claims wouldn't last very long at all. Anti-vaccinators have no ground to stand on at all. If they don't do it for religious purposes that's fine, but the ones who get on my nerves are the ones who spread false scientific claims about vaccines.

And real quick, let's go over some of the ingredients of vaccines and why they're there. You will quickly notice that none of these, in small doses, present any developmental risks. Especially not in the brain.

-Suspending fluid; this can either be sterile water, protein-infused liquids, or saline water.
-Aluminum; it's used as an adjuvant. Adjuvants help spur an earlier immune response to the vaccine.
-Antibiotics; this can include penicillins, cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones, macrolides, sulfonamides, aminoglycosides, and tetracyclines. Their function is pretty obvious; while they aren't necessarily used in the vaccination of the patient, they're used to keep bacteria from growing in the vaccines during storage.
-Egg protein; this is usually found in the influenza vaccine. While this presents some risks to people who are unable to eat eggs, it is relatively safe among most of the population.
-Formaldehyde; you guys all know what formaldehyde is. In the case of vaccines, it inactivates bacterial cells. Toxoid vaccines use a deactivated form of the bacteria to cause immunity, and that deactivation process is usually carried out by formaldehyde. Most traces of formaldehyde are removed before the vaccine is ever administered, but there are still some traces of it present.
-Monosodium glutamate and 2-phenoxy-ethanol; these stabilize the vaccines. Their purpose is to ensure that the vaccine remains unchanged when exposed to varying temperatures, acidic environments, light, and humidity.
-Thimerosal; I briefly covered this a little earlier. Its main purpose is to prevent the growth of unwanted bacteria. It's usually only present in multi-dose vaccine vials.

Not all of these ingredients are in every vaccine. I want to make that very clear. Some are specific to certain types.
