I am currently in the fifth grade, and I have a basic/intermediate understanding of scripting. However I have struggles with the math functions on roblox, as I am only in the fifth grade. What does math.sin, sine, tan, cosine, etc. mean? Thanks for your help. |

stuff with angles/rotation you won't need to learn that stuff for a long time

| There's really no good simple definition to any of those functions. Sure I could start the traditional speech about how they're the ratios of a right triangle, but it'll probably bore you and mean nothing to you in the context of game development. Basically until you have a little more background in mathematics or have the patience to teach yourself, I would advise that you stick with the basics for now. |

| I appreciate the advice, but maybe you could provide a basic understanding? |

| You can't do 5 x 5 without knowing how to do 5 + 5. So stick to what you're learning jumping ahead will just confuse you. |

| Google intro to the trigonometric ratios by khan academy. You are still going to need a bit of knowledge about angles though, so if you're you're feeling weak in that area try practicing measuring things with a protractor. |

| Thank you, I already know to get the sin of an angle is to do opposite/hypotenuse! |

| I really suggest to not jump ahead of your current learning, as these functions are an intro to trigonometry. So, just wait until you get into Geometry. They're not all that hard to learn, but just don't try and confuse yourself. Although, if you do plan on trying to learn these, remember soh cah toa. Look it up, but its a way to remember how to get sin, cosine, and tangent. |

He wants to learn so let him learn.
"people of 16 years old struggle with it so forget"

| We are simply telling him that he doesn't have to push that hard, it'll only stress him out. |

math.sin means you did something wrong, like it errors because you did a sin in math. cosine is the thing that made it go wrong. tan is the color3 value of the color tan. you're welcome

sine opposite over hypotenuse cosine adjacent over hypotenuse tanget is opposite over adjacent
http://www.platinumgmat.com/global/images/study_guide/pythagorean_theorem3.gif?v=1 lets call the one in the bottom right corner, A. lets call 5, B, and 13, C. B is the hypotenuse the sine of A is sin(B/C)
am i right? :o? |

Nope.
sin(B) = b/c where B is the angle across b (or in your case, the right-most angle) |

@Op
you'll learn in later on, I would suggest trying to make a game while challenging your self. The game might be horrible, but that's okay since it's your first game. As long as you keep challenging yourself and asking the scripters forum for help. Since you're starting to learn to script at such an early age chances are that in a couple of years you might make a very good game and cash in on devex.
Just remember it's easy to give up and stop trying to learn script, but I would suggest not as I can guarantee you that it will benefit you greatly later in life |

You got it slightly correct, but also slightly incorrect too. sin(angle) is a ratio, not sin(ratio)
It's defined to be that way: sin(angle) = opp/hyp therefore sin(A) = a/c = 12/13 sin(B) = b/c = 5/13 |

This'll be something for me to learn because I'm taking Geometry this year.

if you are in 5th grade and playing this game you need to reevaluate your life. Play a sport, learn an istrument, read, hangout with friends, spend time with your family instead of this crappy place.
