I couldn't accept that alone, man. EXcellent (he's not on here anymore, but shh), Aveeo, Aetricity, and so many other people are unbelievably smart. Maybe intimidatingly intelligent sometimes. In any case, I'm incredibly honored that anyone would think that. <3

I love how people obsess over DapperNarwhal. Don't get me wrong, he is informed well on his studies, but that doesn't mean he's necessarily intelligent in my book. He reminds me of any active r/science member. Just a guy with a passion for science, nothing special, nothing unremarkable.
If he creates something that's advancing the field of science or makes a mark in the scientific field, I'll call him intelligent. Till then, he's just a college kid who is really informed in his curriculum.

| Just because he knows stuff about science doesn't make him smart, it makes him smart about science. |

This doesn't mean I dislike Dapper. He's a nice guy. It's nice to see someone else who's really passionate in science as I am.

"such a smart person, lacks the ability to code."
ugh
fluent in programming ~= intelligent intelligent ~= fluent in programming
i agree with exov's statement for the most part |

code actually proves an ability that most people don't have.
the ability to recognize certain things and read memory which is quite a talent and is found in most smart people.
i remember taking this test in my freshmen year, they had offered shapes and puzzles, my friends have told me if you pass it, it proves you are worthy of joining an honors class and probably a AP class (college course). |

Coding doesn't mean you're intelligent at all. This is coming from someone who's coded since the age of 12. It's just a trade that is going to be more needed in the future. If you make a program or software that is amazing, then yeah. But just having the ability to code isn't anything too /smart/, it doesn't require much effort. All you have to do to learn to code is practice, practice, and practice. Coding takes time and patience.

| its an skill that most people can't do though, it's like learning another language, which is something that does take time, but coding is way different, it's like you are processing different things, i don't know how to explain it really. |

I can't not agree with this. Science might be my forte (literature used to be up there too). But, for example, if you put me in a situation that requires street smarts, I'd have absolutely no clue what to do. My social intelligence is very very minuscule.

knowing a lot of coding is as useful as knowing a sht ton of walrus facts
its only useful if you apply it correctly. Also, a ton of smart people lack a good foundation in coding purely because while they were in the education system coding and technology in general wasn't really considered a major/sought after field.
i know a ton of languages and got engaged at coding at an early age but i would in no way consider myself intelligent purely because of my fluidity in programming, same as i wouldnt consider someone fluent in french intelligent. then again this is a really hard point to argue for since intelligence is extremely subjective most of the time
anyways just because it's a rare skill (it really isnt in this century) doesn't make it that big when determining intelligence (at least in my book) |
