This is meant to be a master post on how to ask for help on this forum. Feel free to add more or correct one of my points below.
What to do BEFORE asking:
1) Do a quick google search. Adding "roblox wiki" or "roblox" to your search can help weed out irrelevant results. The wiki and old forum posts are a godsend for any new scripter.
2) If there's an error in your code, you can try googling the key parts of the error message (step 1), but more often than not, the error messages are pretty straightforward and easy to solve if you know a decent amount of Lua.
3) If there's no error in your code, then it's more likely that you incorrectly wrote the code than it is a Roblox bug. Try adding print statements to your code to make sure everything is being calculated correctly. If you spot something wrong, try going through the code step by step and see if you spot the issue.
What to do WHEN asking:
1) As the title says, scripters aren't psychics. Telling us "datastore is broke" or "script is not working, no errors" isn't helpful. We need actual code to help you, and preferably how and where you are running the code (e.g. local script, script, in workspace, in replicated storage, etc.) NO ONE IS GOING TO "STEAL" YOUR CODE SNIPPET! Chances are your code isn't as rare or valuable as you think it is.
2) Along with the info mentioned in step one, it would be nice if you include any error messages as well as the piece of code that causes the error (not the line number, we can't see your actual script)
3) Try to narrow down the problem to as few lines as possible. No one wants to read through 100+ lines of code for you.
4) Don't double post. It just makes people agitated and less likely to help you.
5) Be respectful and patient. You're not entitled to our help. We're volunteering our skills and knowledge to help you solve your problems, so the least you could do is be understanding.

| I would also add not requesting that scripts be done for you (for robux or for free) without posting some evidence of trying to complete that task. |

i think a better rule is that don't come and ask for an FPS like phantom forces for 100 R$
i have no problem if people come to request scripts for robux as long as they pay reasonably
but requesting scripts or scripters for free is just stupid

@AggressiveCatch
I do have a problem with people requesting scripts. This is not the forum for that!
Also as long as people keep things down to concepts, like "how would I code a spring I tried to do this", I will always script for free. |

| maybe if they are saying what line number the error is on and number the lines in the script? |

@DarthStrantax
I would argue that numbering lines makes it harder to copy and paste code and test it yourself, so I would suggest against doing that. |
