| I want to learn how to script, been watching tons of YouTube videos and websites. Still nothing I can see that could help me out. I am a very hard learner and somethings easy. If you have a website, YouTube video or better yet a group that can teach me please tell me. I want to learn. |

Search up Peaspod on Youtube. He has some good videos. They're separated into Basics, Intermediate, and Advanced. The basics as over 10 parts to it, so hopefully he covers everything you need to know!
I've actually been learning from just watching a couple of people script things and help them fix bugs and such. I also recommend taking models apart and seeing how they work. That can also help pretty well.

| Just note that learning the language is easy; using it is not. |

Even if his tutorials weren't already bad, I wouldn't like the idea of learning from someone who thinks tables and data persistence are "advanced". |

https://www.lua.org/pil/contents.html <- for learning the language tiself, this is pretty much the best source to learn Lua out there. It's aimed at Lua 5.0 but it's still great for learning Lua 5.1 (what ROBLOX uses)
wiki.roblox.com <- for familiarizing yourself with the ROBLOX API and for ROBLOX-related sources. They also have some decent tutorials on there too. |

You could also pay somebody to teach you.

| Why would you pay someone to teach you (who probably has no idea what they're doing) when you literally have online access to a book on the language _written by the creator of the language?_ |

Maybe being able to have access to the person teaching you while he/she is teaching you so you can ask questions and get an answer immediately without having that very little chance of getting an answer anywhere else. It's just a suggestion.

You're right, that is helpful.
What I more meant to say was that paying somebody to teach you will probably just end up yielding someone who has no idea what they're doing, or are just in it for the money (and we're talking about roblox here bahahaha). It's much better if you have friends proficient in the language who you can learn from and with.

@OP There's a number of ways to learn to script:
1. Reverse Engineer (like I did) 2. Internet (lots of info!) - Credit to SadisticNub for the suggestion 3. Being taught (not a very good idea, as the teacher may not follow your style, and how you want to script; you'll have to do it his/ her way) - Credit to kindcdog09 for the suggestion 4. Research (same as 'Internet,' but you research different codes & styles to use)
From experience, I'd try the Internet first, then Reverse Engineering (in other words, experiment); otherwise it may be a bit difficult & overwhelming for you.
But these are just a few ways to learn to script; there's hundreds upon thousands of sources & ways to help you get started (I think)! :D
Thanks for reading, and have a nice day. :) |

I'm a new scripter as well. Started in the mid of last month. At first I thought I could complete all the Lua easily by understanding everything they said in Wikia. I was wrong, I did understood some of the stuff but I couldn't even apply a Touch event without revising it, meaning, all my work was a waste. I discovered that to manipulate Lua, you manipulate what you learn. It'll take some time and you need to give it it's time. You need to experiment with stuff that you learn.
I started learning Lua in 17th of last month to be exact and in one month (nearly), I've learned a lot of basics. Another thing is, once you code, try to upgrade it or make it "cleaner". For me, ROBLOX studio would crash and that'd frustrate me, but I now realize how recoding the same thing much cleaner has helped.
Lastly, I would like you to test everything out and make something useful out of what you learn. If you're not an easy picker or you think Lua is hard, you could probably hire a teacher to clear your misconceptions. Once you experiment with the stuff and when you understand them, that's when you're ready to manipulate them and learn more. Don't try to skip/jump yo next level until you're ready to manipulate what is before them. |
