Ultimately death is what gives us value and makes our life meaningful, not meaningless. Let me pose a similar example, pretend your mom gives you two gifts, a month of subscription to World of Warcraft and a copy of Mario Kart. Which game would you most value more, the game that you get to keep forever or the game you have a month to play? And before you say, "well I think WoW is stupid, Mario kart for the win!" Those were just examples, here's some more. Let's just say you live in rural Montana, and suddenly you get shipped to Hawaii on the beach for a week. Which will you value more, the small amount of time in Hawaii or another day in the life of Montana? Let's say you rent a movie from paperview, and you also have a copy of another movie, why don't we just say I don't know a James Bond movie. Are you going to watch the movie you rented or watch the James Bond movie for the 5th time? Do you get the point yet? Why don't I prove it mathematically then. 1 out of 1 is 1, that is 1 divided by 1 and a fraction of 1 over 1, 100%. All of the time, is worth everything. Let's pretend there is 1 day out of a 1 day life, this is 1 day out of a 1 day life and literally all of that life, and it's worth 100% of it. Let's say you live for 2 days long, 1 day out of a 2 day life is worth 50% of that life. It's still a long amount of time but it did lose its value compared to the one day life. Let's say you live for 10 days long, 1 day out of a 10 day life is only worth 10%. That 1 day is worth a lot less now in the 10 day life than it was in the 1 day life. In a 100 day life 1 day is only 1% of it, and 1000 day life its only 0.1% of it. A 10000, 1 day is only 0.01% of it. You see where I'm going? Do you see what happens? The longer you exist the less worth of a single event, this is until you life to infinity, where everything is worth 0% of that life. Let's say someone lives for about 100 years and for a whole 50 years of their life they were married. In this 50 out of 100 years, 50% is a great amount of that persons life. But the longer that person lives, the less that 50 year marriage matters. If we lived forever, everything infinite would become worthless. Let's say you have millions of years to play your favorite video game, that's awesome, but it's worthless in infinite life. When you live any amount of an infinite life, it's 0% of it. I've heard a good phrase that sums this up pretty well, it goes something like this, "you don't realize the worth of water until the well runs dry". How often are you just hugely thankful for the clothes your wear, the ability to sleep in a bed, the ability to breathe, I would wager that most of us don't think about these things because we have them all of the time. The fact our lives are temporary, the fact that we won't always be here, and that we always have a sense of urgency makes it worth something. We fight for our survival, knowing that we'll one day die makes aspire for greatness. It makes us want to achieve more, perform science, stories, and poetry and the mathematics that we have. If everyone in history of the world lived forever, humanity would climb at an extremely slow pace compared to now. Knowing we have such little time, why don't we spend it doing what we enjoy.
