You should have seen it prior to the German Empire.
Try remembering all those German duchies. |

I can actually memorise all the European countries off my head.
But then I can do the same for most countries. |

i don't even understand what the holy roman empire was supposed to be

I think the Holy Roman Empire was a way of having your sovereignty protected as a small state without being absorbed into another country.
Of course Napoleon just decided to destroy it anyway.
Then the Prussians decided enough was enough unified Germany and kicked some French arse. |

I guess in a sense except the Holy Roman Empire had an Emperor (Almost always an Austrian guy) who is elected by the prince electors each time the Emperor dies.
It's a pretty cool thing really.
It was set up by Charlemagne (King of Francia). |

"conquer it
changing ruler?"
France was the successor state to Francia but Franks aren't necessarily the same as French people.
I think the Holy Roman Empire was set up in like early 800's if memory serves (I may be wrong don't shoot).
Anyhow France lost control over it and it became more of a nuisance to them.
Also Napoleon liked to destroy things. |

| I consider the Caucasus to be the cut off point of Europe and Asia but Georgians, Armenians and Azeris are culturally closer to Europes than Asia in my view. |

| @Strait: I consider Australians culturally closer to being categorized European than being culturally categorized with Indonesians but that doesn't make them European. |

Don't take my word for all that stuff about the HRE.
I have a rough idea about it but I'm not always 100% accurate. |
