like for a long while i thought it was when a group of comments or a situation is being faked to get someone to accept a trade for financial gain.
then again alot of people are saying stuff about lying about offers and promising stuff you wont give out (which is kind of scamming i think)
wat waaaaaa |

Sharking is the terminology used to determine an act of lying, often involving the result that a certain user (in this case refered as the victim) being believed into something that quite often is false. But in this case, it is the values of an item. This method works through stating that the value of an item is higher (usually the person commiting the act or more known as 'sharker') or lower (usually the victim) than the actual value of that certain item. It may escalate into luring the victim into believing so using other people to agree with them, misleading the 'sharked.' This is to gain profit as the sharker may be either desperate, anxious or simply just tuning in for a laugh. This is usually mistaken for 'scamming' although it contains many similarities to it (as previously stated by materking in a recent post). However, some people find this method disgusting and repulsive because of the use of sabotage. |

Good question, because I honestly don't know the definition lol When I "shark" I don't use values I just basically say the positives of my item, or make everything about my item seem good and make their item look bad in compare. Or I'll have friends post accept on a thread.

sharking is making people with little knowledge on an item they own believe that the value of it is much lower than what it actually is or vice versa where their item is being overpriced

Like I'll 'shark' anyone I get the chance to but I wouldn't 'steal' from someone in a deal (mm'ing,borrowing,multi,etc) soo its hard to say what the difference is

@regig
you have to be completely technical though, this isnt algebra xd i think there is an actual line between sharking and scamming, i admitted to sharking as long as it was changing values when trading with people (telling them a value and then changing it later)
but i think thats the most innocent rly as i didnt get anyone to lie with me, just posted my opinion rly

Scamming is far more large in magnitude. It's done with more potential in order to 'steal' items. In this case, sharking is just a small illusion or trickery to make some profit but scamming is a wholeeeee different level. Sharking isn't that serious because you still have items that have a value that doesn't give a potential loss but scamming can make you end up with no absolute items and pure loss. |

som1 on my thread called me out like 30 mins ago, i forget name but he basically said scamming and sharking are the same and I somewhat agree to an extent... but still consider myself legit? like if it was a planned out deal I wouldn't take anything obviously

scamming is stealing while promising an item in return
sharking is merely tricking a person into thinking an item is a different value to actuality they get what they are promised and it isnt bannable because the receiver is liable to research values for themself
