Absolutely hate one striker formations. 4-5-1, 4-1-2-2-1, 4-3-3 (true 9), whatever it is, you name it They're never effective, and as a forward, I hate watching games where the one striker is all by himself on an island, does all the pressuring, and never gets proper support/service. It's an absolute plague to the game and I wish it would go the way of the 3 man backline and never be seen again. |

| I agree. Considering I've also played as a single forward, it sucks. No support up front really hurts me as a player. |

| I'm 100% sure that every striker would agree playing with a partner up front that understands your movement and off the ball runs is much better than being alone on an island |

| only way i like seeing 1 striker formations is with a player who is big and holds up the ball for flicks and lay-offs |

it works for portland and that's only time i see it work (maybe Chelsea and Bayern)
i think 4-2-4 is still effective if your wingers back track. same with a strikerless formation. |

| But doesn't that seem like a waste to you? How are you going to score? Your only option is to feed the big guy crosses into the box and bring the bodies forward on set pieces. You're literally refusing to utilize an entire position. It's like you're saying oh here, just use your body to keep the ball and give it back to the guys who actually need it. We'll cross the ball to your big dome when you're needed. |

| Portland doesn't play a true one striker system. It's kind of a withdrawn 4-3-3 with Nagbe and Melano as inverted wingers. |

Yeah they do. And it's really bad because Dwyer is getting 0 service. Vermes needs to stop playing Brad Davis on the right side too. |

| Dwyer can do a lot with another player, 4-3-3 true 9 ain't working out so good for us. |

| Nagbe has been playing a lot more central lately. He still moves more often to the wing but Asprilla is the "winger". |

| If Dwyer had a David Accam type partner up top, he would have 7 or 8 goals right now |

Right, but Asprilla hasn't played much recently, and Nagbe has been taking over his role just because Portland doesn't have any other options |

| i'm a striker and i love playing a 4-3-3 i like to be on a loan island, my striking partner gets in my way. all i need is the midfield to pass the ball up and the wingers on my sides to pass it in |

how does ur strike partner get in ur way thats his problem and he needs to fix it
playing 1 up top on their own never works unless ur playing some defence w/ 4 yr olds on it
4-4-2 is the best formation and always will be

| I agree, and just like ale I've played in this position and it's not fun. I would rather have a strike partner and its much more effective. I don't remember who said it, but holding up the ball there still isn't a good option. I've played in a single striker formation countless times, and even when you hold it up it still doesn't work as well. |

I find one striker formations very effective, that is the only time i ever get on the attack as a Cen Mid, as I normally am only used in a def. purpose.
