Because it sounds really dumb. Just call it a "spelling tournament" or "spelling contest".
I sure as hell couldn't keep a straight face if commentators and analysts kept repeating stuff like "National Hockey Hornet" or "BCS National Wasp Game" or "NCAA Men's Basketball Spider" or "FIFA World Housefly" or... you get the idea. |
