But you can, funny enough for both of them careers exist. What I'm arguing though is that school should not be only based on creating a workforce, it should be it's main focus, but we're not a bunch of machines. |

| Just because some anomalies have found a way to sit on their butts doing worthless jobs like playing an instrument or playing video games doesn't make it a viable career path. Should we teach video games in school because it is an art? |

| Fine, let life be a factory, and let people live pointlessly with each little person slightly adding their effort to society. It is rather sad. |

"really, the only essential classes are english and basic math - algebra" YES. Though, you should be allowed to go beyond algebra, because if you're very good at math, you may want to consider a career having to do with it. Really, I think my area's way of doing it is good. If you're really advanced, you can go 6th - Algebra 1 7th - Geometry and Algebra 2 8th - Precalc 9th - Calc AB and BC 10th - Statistics 11th - Calculus 3 12th - No more math.
This is the path I've been taking, and what I will continue to do. I'm hoping to get a career in financing, so it's worth it. Arts should be a student paid class, and technology should be mandatory also. Sports should also be a student paid class. There should also be scholarships funded by extra art student money (not by every taxpayer in the country) to help poor kids who are seriously considering taking up art as a supporting career.

The development of video games would be nice to be taught, but I suppose that's for specialized schools |

| HOWEVER yes we cannot lose focus, yet we can't be unreasonable, the option is there and we need to emphasize it. |

Sometimes we just need to agree to disagree. I am taking a utilitarian view to education. As long as our students can read, write, do mathematics, understand science, have an understanding of computers, understand our legal and political system, then I think we are setting them up for success. Art and Music are hobbies that can be pursued in their free time. Let's not waste taxpayer dollars and unnecessarily lengthen the educational process.

We could have it as a side, but just because they're there for extra doesn't mean I'm advocating for them to be considered a major career choice
I'm saying we need extras to add to the main, even if they're not needed, it helps create more to an individual. To expect the extras to be fulfilled on free time is a bit demanding on those who cannot access the extras outside of school.
I don't think we'll get any further with this since we've been uttering the same basic arguments just paraphrased for the past few posts. |

| Though, what I am willing to agree is that useful topics should be emphasized more in schools since currently it's quite a mess and lacks many of the essential subjects, or at least lacks the in depth teaching of it. |

To add, things like sports are seriously over funded and over emphasized within the school and need a serious cut-back. Just because someone mentioned sports. |

| Sadly, we can't improve teacher wages. They're so important, and that's why they get paid too little. There's so many of them. We could make expulsions more common for the kids who really aren't taking advantage of free education and just get in fights all the time and don't do anything in class. Or even, if you get a low enough GPA, you're kicked out of school. All the liberals would protest that, though. |

That's OK. Our theater teacher left and they're not hiring a new one because it's expensive. Plus our music department's budget is being cut in half, Which stinks considering we already had to buy our own outfits for choir and the music pretty much all came from our teachers budget. |

What do you guys think about having a more widespread school budget, where one district has enough money while the other is experiencing extreme budget cuts. To me it sounds like it would be nice in theory, but I have no idea how it could be executed very well. |

| Alright, you've convinced me, we are forcing culture unlike our predecessors did. It happened from advancement of society, perhaps this is what I am missing. It cannot be directed. |
