Basically ROBLOX should allow people upload video and gif decals, but instead of actually being on the website, they would be outsourced from an allowed website (Twitter or Youtube or something).
That way developers can build movie theaters, phones, TVs, etc that play actual watchable content instead of a static image, and through scripting can have them surfable in a specific model to emulate channels.
There's no reason not to. You already allow Youtube links, twitter links, etc. so people can already link to their content, and these sites allow embed videos and gifs. There's nothing wrong or illegal about it and there's a lot ways it can improve places.

"Wants them to be hosted off roblox. No."
That's better than having them take up monumental amounts of data by having them actually be on ROBLOX.
All that would have to be done is to moderate the embed link so ROBLOX only lets in ones they approve. It's just like how decals are moderated so there's no difference or extra moderation. |

Support.
My only concern is that these embed decals would become useless if the outsourcer decides to remove the content for any reason. So maybe both options could be possible: embed decals for free, and actually uploading videos and gifs as decals that cost R$ and work like adspace sort of (you'd have to pay to keep them up as people compete for animated decalspace). |

| Also when moderated (going off what ruin said) ROBLOX moderators can designate whether the decal is 13+ or not and if a person with privacy mode tries to view the decal or tries to play it in-game nothing plays (place scripters can also configure it to instead play a random non 13+ decal or something as an alternative). |

| Support. What's the difference between being sending someone a YouTube link and being able to play them on a SurfaceGui? If you're going to allow one it's really silly to not allow the other. |

| You'd have to moderate them, though. There are lots of messed up gifs. |

You already have to moderate decals.
There's literally no difference in how it will be moderated and the amount of moderation, the only difference is whether or not they won't let it in because it's an inappropriate image or if it's a not allowed video or gif.
Seizure decals are already possible, it just takes a lot of scripting because you have to string each frame together.
@colbert
So are you cool with Youtube links in comments, walls and forums then? Because it's basically the same thing. I hope not, because I don't want to deal with any double standards. |

1. Make GIF file with an inoffensive image 2. Make the last frame of the inoffensive image last for multiple hours 3. Put obscene imagery and profanity after the multiple-hour frame 4. ??? 5. PROFIT! |

You really think ROBLOX would allow gif files that are that long? They don't even allow audios that are longer than 90 seconds, right?
Not to mention your gif would have to play in that scenario for multiple hours.
Videos are a similar story.
If ROBLOX allows links to gifs and videos that can potentially be like this, it's a double standard to act like this is a sudden problem if they allow decals like this. |

| GIF files don't work like videos. WEBM files would probably work, though. |

Half-support. I love the idea of this, but outsourcing for me is a no.
I agree with the people who are against outsourcing because you guys say it doesn't change moderation, but it does, because if you outsource your content, the original provider can change what that source is linking to. It could be a funny gif one moment, and a NSFW gif or jumpscare gif the next. And people could do it intentionally to bypass the system.
Also for the people who monetize the content you're uploading to ROBLOX (who would also indirectly make money off it), there's a complicated legal copyright system to traverse.
It's because of this I think this idea would be safer in ROBLOX parties and group chats instead of in places, but if it's only safe there then what's the use of it.
Even so, if ROBLOX doesn't want to take these risks, this concept is still very good when applied to original content, or maybe even ROBLOX recordings or videos that use ROBLOX characters (as sort of a copyright judo move--how can you sue ROBLOX for copyright on something you used ROBLOX copyrights in?), so it's still worthwhile to look into.
I just don't think it's that simple. |

@ima
You make very good points, but they don't apply to every single possible outsourced video or gif.
That's why they were saying moderation would still be the same. Those things are just as moderate-able as the current decals, it's just that you have to use some different criteria.
If the sources are shown to be copyright safe, and weren't originally made to be outsourced but for community enjoyment, then the problems you're highlighting don't apply. And there's plenty of YouTube videos, imgu* gifs, etc that do fit these two criteria. For those videos and GIFs including them in the ROBLOX Library would be a godsend for some RP Places and movie theater tycoons and places that have static TV screens.
Also your original content idea/ROBLOX recorder videos/videos and GIFs that include ROBLOX characters or trademarks is good as well and I feel there is enough stuff like that out there to where this could still be a good update.
So all in all, good points, but there's a bigger picture. |

Thing is like wind says not every video or gif has ulterior motives. Most videos on Youtube were made by people who seriously want a YouTube career. Most gifs are posted by people who don't even know what ROBLOX is let alone how to troll the system.
These are the kinds of videos and gifs that could be safe to outsource. |

@happy
So you're telling me you'd script in and upload every frame of every video or gif you ever want into one place that probably doesn't get enough traffic to be worthwhile? |
