Comments provided nothing to them really. Removing the comments removed a very high portion of spam and scams. This saves many accounts from being taken.
It sucks but more good comes from this, when i first saw it happen i was very angry, commenting on hats was something i really liked and seeing other comments if they weren't scam links.
But now i understand, it does suck that comments were removed, but many accounts are now safe because of this. Think about it, people look at hats, admire them, but most don't have enough money for them, then they see links in the comments, "providing" free money, builders club, to good to be true. Then the gullible people go to the links, and get their accounts taken. This isn't gonna happen as often anymore.
Now the spams and scams(which already are there prior to catalog item comments being removed)are going to appear more on games, where less people are going to be in a desperate purchasing mood.
It sucks but lots of good comes from this, more good than bad. We still have the forums, where is the place of talking to others here. Any any non youtube, twitter, twitch links, are quickly removed ;)

@Keviyn
I think rather than censoring EVERYONE, ROBLOX should just focus more on teaching users to keep their account safe, maybe by having alerts on the top of the site like when they livestream (which is not ideal, since new users are always registering), or when they register they have a PM telling them not to visit any offsite links, as well as other safety tips. Furthermore, they could improve the filter on links. Really, anything other than muting everyone, since the comments were useful for seeing what other people thought of the item, which in itself is useful when purchasing high price limiteds.
