I do the walls first, why would you do an inside before knowing the exterior design you're going for?

@Diglet, I might do that now. That actually seems like a cool showcase concept.

also in all seriousness
i do a floor plan so i know where the walls will go and the rooms and stuff before anything else, it's easy to adjust things then until you're satisfied with sizes

Depends If it's like a central building, I'll spend a lot of time on it. I'll get a feel of the exterior design first, then I'll create an interior that would match it.
Doing the interior first is honestly really important because it creates scale and establishes what needs to go where on the exterior so when it's complete there isn't any glaring errors. When I'm done with the interior I'll do the exterior and finish it like that. But I've been shifting technique recently since I've started working with voile. His technique is to use big bulky blocks to serve as a general layout for the exterior and interior of the building, so he has a template he can fit the interior into first that makes sense and so that he also has a template for the exterior that he can build straight onto without busting the design of the map. If you want something that looks like modern WIJ architecture(refined, geometric, simple but attractive) then that's hands down the best method.
Also, use big increments(2, 1, .5 at smallest.) It makes everything look more solid and well put together.
If it's a noncentral building that serves more for gameplay than anything else I'll do the exterior and add on to that for the interior. Don't waste hours building some intricate crap for something players aren't designed to look at. Don't let it look bad, I mean, but also avoid spending too much time on something that isn't of key importance.
But what do I know? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |
