I've played a bunch of fps games like CoD, CS:GO, Halo, etc. but no matter what im always awful when i play? recently the overwatch beta came out and i wanted to try the game. it is very cool and fun and i love it but the same problem comes around, im awful at fps. I always see the same old tip "practice", but it never seems to help. I've practiced with CS for over a year yet im still the guy with the least amount of kills and most deaths. Now with overwatch im practicing but it feels as while i level up i stay the same but everyone gets better. My normal score now is a sad 5 eliminations and 7 deaths, while when i started it would usually be 8 eliminations and 3 deaths.
maybe someone can give me some advice on overwatch so i can fully enjoy it? idk what im doing wrong, aiming incorrectly, wrong strategy? i like to use tracer if anyone can help me out

ok let me tell you something to get better at fps games do not focus on getting kills, you play to have fun (unless your playing competitively of course) another massive tip to get accurate shots in overwatch; always have the sensetivity low it helps to get accurate shots another tip, ALWAYS stay with your team, even if someone is low health don't chase someone at low health because this could be your scenario: *medkit appears nearby* *enemy takes it* *you are screwed from enemy's high damage rate* you should always practice, another one is always play different heroes, don't go playing 1 or you'll be able to get read constantly lastly, find a character that suits your playstyle, the way you play can effect the whole game |

Someone get this guy a trophy. That is the actual meaning of playing a video game.. |

*slow clap*
that advice is ridiculously basic, some of it contradicts other parts of it ("play different heroes" - next line: "find a character you like and play that one") and newsflash, bro:
generally, getting kills in a shooter gamer is part of having fun because it's an indicator you're doing well
it's generally not considered to be fun to constantly lose |

advice like "don't run off alone after a retreating enemy", "you should always practice" and "accurate shots are better" is very much ridiculously basic advice, m80
and the reason people don't give such tips is because you'd expect anyone with two brain cells to rub together to figure out that running into enemy territory alone is a bad idea, or that actually hitting with your shots is better than not doing so |

Getting better reaction time is probably the best thing you could do.
Remember where power-ups and whatnot are on the map.
Also look around at all times unless a teammate got your back. (Basically stay alert, never just look at where you're going, you're gonna get shot in the back that way.) |

"Opinions m9"
i mean, if you think that it's genuinely worthwhile advice to tell someone that "missing is bad", that's not my problem, but it's really not a question of opinions that advice like "don't run off alone into enemy territory" and "don't miss" is anything but extremely basic |

Well for one, you don't play Call of Duty. For second, CSGO, Quake Live, and Tribes Ascend are good games to improve accuracy while playing FPS games. You must NOT use a controller for any of them. Get the CPL Mouse Fix, turn off Pointer Precision in the options, and the most important step is find a good, and cheap mouse that has a DPI setting on it, or at least a gaming mouse.

this isnt true you need to have the sensitivity balanced if you have it too slow you wont be able to turn around and shoot someone whos attacking you from behind |

In some games, my sensitivity is at 3.75, Raw Input turned on, and DPI at 100, because it's much faster.

realistically, he wouldn't turn it down to the point where he cant turn around, its common sense |

how to git gud at any fps ever
1)play tf2
2) master the Sniper class, and i mean ''Pro-Competitive Sniper'' type of mastery (no Machina, or Heatmaker, Or Huntsman, use stock Sniper Rifle)
2.5) Dont be afraid to check up guides and videos, you will really need them
3)Make sure you can headshot anything at any angle (you dont have to hit all the time, just enough for your reflexes, distance-gauging and skill to be extremely high)
4)Eventually you will be good enough to excel at any FPS (especially with Sniper considering how hard it can be to land headshots on moving targets in TF2 due to crap hitboxes and a tiny head compared to the rest of the body) |

thats not what i meant if you slowed it down it would take too long to turn around to see someone and youll get killed easier and when people are jumping around you wouldnt be able to put your crosshair on them |

this isnt true you need to have the sensitivity balanced if you have it too slow you wont be able to turn around and shoot someone whos attacking you from behind
low sensitivity is objectively better for a majority of fps games. if you dont have enough mouse space for low sens then you need to invest in a larger desk and mouse pad. |
