Disallowing Unethical Felons from Civil Office Act
An act to prevent convicted felons from holding any civil office in the United States.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION I. SHORT TITLE (a) This act shall be cited as the "Disallowing Unethical Felons from Civil Office Act" or "DUFCO" for short.
SECTION II. DEFINITIONS (a) The term "felony" means any crime carrying a punishment of prison time.
(b) The term "civil office" means a Cabinet-level, directorial, or Congressional position, as well as federal judges and supreme court justices. In addition, positions that must be approved by the Senate, except ambassadorial and military judicial positions, shall be deemed civil offices. (cited from 19th amendment, section 2)
SECTION III. PREVENTION (a) Any person convicted of a felony may not hold or run for any civil office in the United States of America.
SECTION IV. ESTABLISHMENT CLAUSE (a) This act shall take effect immediately if passed. |
