Not a huge fan of these ideas, but I'm sure there's a good reason to them.
I like how most leagues in Europe are played. |

I (and many others) like the playoffs, but I really do feel it needs to be promoted more or given more of a playoff feel to it. Watching Portland vs FC Dallas last season in the WC finals felt like a downer.
But a real reason that the MLS can't just ditch the playoffs is that teams lose their best players (and quite a bit of them too) because of concurrent international breaks that coincide with MLS matches. A team like LA will be missing most of their starters on one of these days, most likely resulting in a loss for them that they would probably win most of the time. Bit unfair for the teams who have really good players. |

| Ikr, needs to be fixed. Although I think there was some kind of report where MLS teams can pick their BYEs. Why the good teams are not all picking the days with int'l breaks is beyond me. |

| one of the reasons we can't change it is because of our canadian teams not being able to play in winter |

| I guess that's true. I think they should've all made indoor stadiums though. |

I've seen so many strange league formats in soccer that I'm completely fine with the MLS having playoffs.
However, I do feel like winning the regular season title should be more rewarding. Not saying it should be rewarded to the scale as the MLS Cup Final, but still.
And besides, America has a huge fetish for playoffs (to the point where even freaking NASCAR has playoffs) so the MLS Cup tournament will never go away. |

you can't remove conferences the US is too big and players already complain about the travel for road games removing conferences will just make the problem worse

| This can be compared to Argentina(They're changing it now) and how they have a 2 conference set-up with playoffs at the end I'm pretty sure. Conferences should be removed but playoffs be kept. |

get a map out, use your finger to see how far it is from perth to wellington, nz, then know that the a-league here doesn't have conferences. |

Argentina's clubs are all within one area
There are 16 clubs alone in the Buenos Aires metro area The largest distance between teams can be compared to the distance between Houston and Kansas City
You can't remove conferences and then have Houston travel to Montreal, then go to Portland, and then go back home to Houston in just 3 weeks.
That's insanity. |

| Plus with the restrictive regulations on charter flights the MLS has, travel is especially bad ^ |

What a horrible example
All of the A-League's teams are concentrated in one area, except for Perth and Wellington Only one or two long trips a year

you're forgetting the part where half of the league is foreign and the players come from countries where all away games can be reached by a 2 hour bus trip |

the season schedule needs to be changed if the mls ever want to be a world class league. because literally every important international tournament is in the summer, if the mls signs talented international players in their primes, it will take a huge toll on the club teams, and viewership probably drops at that time
also i hate the salary cap and dp system, even though i understand why it's there soon the league will need to scrap that if they want to sign top players and become one of the best leagues in the world

None of these are far away except for Perth lol All of these distances are regular occurrences in MLS
Adelaide to Sydney is the same distance as Houston to Orlando

"Do teams not use planes??"
"MLS enforces strict air travel rules which limit the number of charter flights each team can take. The rules were relaxed slightly in 2008 but teams are still restricted to four private journeys per season. The regulations are intended to prevent wealthier clubs, which can afford more charter flights, from gaining a competitive advantage." |
