Back in the 50's, scientists expected the whole world to be using nuclear power by the year 2000.
Nuclear has no carbon emissions (so no global warming), It's waste can be recycled into new energy, and it lasts a really long time. It's crazy that we all aren't using it by now |

They do leave nuclear wastes, or so I heard
And if they do, where do we dump 'em?

I actually explained this to my brother for literally an hour in a hotel.
The reason is coal is cheaper, even though nuclear is more abundant. Makes no sense.

Cheap resources or abundant resource?
Things we can buy from other countries or work hard to get alot?
Hmmm...

Yeah nuclear power is a really good idea. Unfortunately, we're using really old technology at the present and nobody wants to invest in it further.
If we get some of the newer technologies up and running, a lot of problems will be solved. Like using Thorium or nuclear fusion instead of what we use currently. Rather than waste that is dangerous for tens of thousands of years, there will be waste that's dangerous for only a couple hundred.
Not to mention how much more efficient they are and how we can recycle the materials. |

"Nuclear waste can be recycled into new energy"
Not what I learned. My ecology teacher, who was in the EPA, said that we put the waste in containers and bury it so that in the future can deal with it. This topic is also the topic of my final essay, which I haven't started. Oh and all of this stuff is about humans affecting global warming is false for what we know. This is because the Earth has gone through periods were the Earth has warmed up like this with out human interference.
But hey this is all coming from the guy that has a B in ecology class.

costs?
or maybe the fear of a meltdown which is stupid (chernobyl, f(u)kushima, three mile island) |

@catman8321 Emphasis on the 'can'. Right now, most nuclear waste isn't recycled. There is technology to recycle most of it, but it's not widely used right now. |

We can't recycle all of our recyclables in America at the moment, I don't think we have methods to recycle it besides putting it in a barrel and dumping it.

Nuclear power plants create nuclear waste. We're currently running out of space to put it.

| nah you cant recycle nuclear energy. its reactive and dangerous. the waste is like the size of a dice to power a whole city for a month but all the cities in america for a year? it builds up and blows up and is dangerous so it kinda sits alone in a water tower you cant get near for a while |

That's what America does with the waste. But France recycles it.
"Oh and all of this stuff is about humans affecting global warming is false for what we know. This is because the Earth has gone through periods were the Earth has warmed up like this with out human interference."
That's what conservative politicians say because they want to continue receiving money from oil companies. But the general consensus among climate scientists is fossil fuels are warming the earth |

If France can recycle it, why can't we all recycle it? I am almost certain they would share this information. Radioactive waste is radioactive.

Again not enough information to say what is and isn't true. I have only learned what was in the textbook.

it's VERY dangerous
see: chernobyl
what you might be thinking of is nuclear fusion since if we figured out how to get it working as a functional power source it'd have zero carbon emissions, be more reliable, not create long term radioactive waste, be more efficient than fossil fuels, and be rather safe compared to nuclear fission |

| @Blue, no it is not. Nuclear is when a heavy uranium atom is split into lighter atoms, giving off a ton of heat which is used to create steam to turn a turbine which creates power. Geothermal energy is just heat from the earth creating steam. |

Heat is energy, you will learn about this later. It is how atomic bombs work.

Democrats in Congress banned America from recycling nuclear energy because they thought it would lead to "creation of nuclear weapons"
"Again not enough information to say what is and isn't true. I have only learned what was in the textbook."
It's called the greenhouse effect |
