Hello officers of West Sussex, This is the official Police Code of Conduct & Policing Handbook version 1, created on Saturday, 23th April 2016. Approved for use by Gold Command: ManyFireman - Police & Crime Commissioner TechMadLad - Deputy Police & Crime Commissioner JavelinStryker - Assistant Police & Crime Commissioner
[ SECTION 1: CODE OF CONDUCT - WHAT'S EXPECTED? ] We expect our officers to be professional. We expect our officers to read the handbook and remember it. We expect our officers to do the best they can be. You are expected to be a proud, South Sussex Police officers - whether you've climbed the ladder to Deputy Police & Crime Commissioner or just starting out at Police Community Support Officer. We've laid out some ground rules to keep you at bay: - Swearing, racism, bullying and other forms of harassment will NOT be tolerated. - Act professional at ALL times! - When patrolling on foot, say "Hello!" or "How's your day going?" to passing citizens, so the public see us protectors. - Reckless driving, speeding and improper use of communications will be punished.
[ SECTION 2: VEHICLE USE ] Different vehicles are appointed to different divisions. This is the list of cars you can use, depending on the department: West Sussex Police - Patrol Car West Sussex Police ARU - ARV. West Sussex Police Traffic Unit - ANPR Interceptor.
[ SECTION 3: WHEN TO ARREST ] It may be confusing as when to arrest somebody. There are many charges that you can arrest people for, but the main ones are murder, speeding, reckless driving, threats to citizens/police and other offensive actions.
[ SECTION 4: WHEN TO USE WEAPONS ] Most departments are given a baton and a pepper spray. The baton is used for knocking a suspect down the floor or smashing in windows (roleplay) when at a high risk traffic stop. A suspect can be knocked down the floor for the following reason, which include a knife suspect, harassment, fights or minor incidents. The pepper spray is a more serious offence weapon, so it would be used in cases like a threatening suspect, person with a weapon or hostage-taker.
[ SECTION 5: CONCLUSION ] We hope this covers everything you'll need to be successful in South Sussex Police. If there is anything we have missed, contact the Gold Command.
Signed, XpertExplosive. Police & Crime Commissioner for West Sussex Police.
