Yes cause we entered to make sure communism didnt spread
Due to homefront issues we couldnt maintain troops there due to civil unrest so we pulled out
Then the Vietcong took over

yes a.) what they wanted to achieve didn't happen b.) the usa could never beat a nation which had been fighting for independence for just over 1000 years c.)the war was unpopular in america by 1969, they had to withdraw and lose d.) "tactically withdrew" is not a thing that's what the french say to hide the fact they ran away

what military victory did the USA have in vietnam?
America fought for areas like Hamburger Hill and then left it for the Vietcont to reoccupy it anyway One of America's main bases had a Vietcong tunnel underneath it.
It was both a Military loss and a political loss

vietnam suffered more casualties than the US did, so the US won military wise.
they lost politically because we failed our objective and retreated |

and every living US soldier in vietnam had their arses kicked.
it wouldn't make a difference if the french got back involved, or the english came to assist, you'd've never have won. nukes were out of the question, you're fighting in land you're not used to with a country which has far more military experience on the strategic side. |

Military victory, political loss. [2]
The main point of the war was to stop the spread of Communism. They succeeded in doing so, but at a large cost. It was a Pyrrhic's Victory.

'more vietnamese died'
the russians lost around 9million men, which is nearly double the german's most conservative figures and i'd still say they came out the victor.
that 9 million is only military soldiers, too. the civilian figure is far higher. |

People actually forget USA was winning that war, but pulled out because of the confusion to tell soldiers apart.
