Otaku Pirates Trading Guide
Otaku Pirates don't trade often. We would prefer to raid other ships and stations for materials instead, hence the name. However during the start of the game we sometimes prefer to mine and trade instead of raiding. Though in the mid game that's when trading becomes obsolete for us since we will be in war with everyone. No one should trade during war by the way, because freighters are the easiest types of ships to kill in the game. Trading is the base of the economy for every server, weather pirating or trading. Mining first of all, gives your base power which intern gives you more income. then, it adds ore to your base decreasing the prices off said ores, that will increase trade of your base adding to your bases power giving more income ect. Mining also gives a steady form of income not as much as trading but not near as risky. Mining is also a skill, you must learn what ores to mine the fastest how to cope with other miners and even avoid enemies/aliens. IN conclusion the base of the economy for any server is in fact mining.
Basically, buy low, sell high. And always try the shortest routes first while maintaining the lowest prices first. Example: Let's say there are four bases, one is your home base where you can buy silicate for 3 credits each, and there are 2 close bases where you can sell it for 6 credits each. Then there is a far away base that you can sell silicate for 8 credits each. First you should buy the 3 credit silicate and fill up your cargo. Then don't go to the closer bases, go to the farther one for more profit. If it doesn't have enough money to buy your stuff, THEN you go back to the closer bases, or farther by this time. Worst case scenario you have to sell it back to your base because all the other bases have no money. Or a pirate/aliens kills you. Once you reach a dead end in your trade route, do NOT warp back to your homebase. It is safer and easier to just despawn your ship instead and then reset to teleport to your homebase. Then rinse and repeat. Essentially there is no most profitable ore to buy and sell. They all, at their max price range, have the same profit from trading. However some are easier to acquire than others and that depends on your situation.
Mining ships include: • Wasp • Tango • Harvester • Advanced miner • Industrial miner
Each miner has its own pros and cons.
Wasp • almost no pro's • beginner ships to get a starting point for money • It is the best miner for dodging turrets
Tango • Step up from wasp • mines faster and holds more • good all round for close distances
Harvester • only miner with warp • good for mining in a war or spread out/minimal ore • long range
Advanced miner • Mines faster/more storage then tango/wasp/harvester • Slow and open to enemy attacks
Industrial miner • Very slow • Very risky in war • Mines 15mass per laser • huge income and safer then mining • vulnerable to pretty much everything
Trading ships: •wyrm •tempura •argonaught •prospecter •hercules
Wyrm -The best ship to use for looting wrecks of small ships/aliens since it is the fastest & cheapest trading ship. -Cargo:250 -Maximum profit: silicate: 1250$ Carbon: 1250$ Iridium: 1250)$ Sector Ores: 1250$
Tempura -Also a good looting ship. Best for pirates who just killed a greivion or something, and a wyrm isn't enough to carry the load. -Cargo: 500 -Maximum profit: 2500$
Argonaut - It's your average trading ship. -Cargo:800 -Maximum Profit: 4000$
Prospector - Some people use this instead of the hercules because of it's speed and maneuverability compared to its superior form, but it is the easiest trading ship to kill because of it's size and low sheild/hull. -Cargo: 1000 -Maximum Profit: 5000$
Hercules - This is the best trading ship Known for wrecking server's economies, while giving it's driver thousands of credits. However it is also very easy to lose to an alien or warmonger. -Cargo 1500 -Top Speed: 429 -Maximum profit: 7500$
ORES *Note these are maximum price ranges and may vary depending on the supply and demand of the server.
Silicate Mass: 1 Price range: 3 - 8
Carbon -Mass: 1.25 -Price range: 3.75 - 10
Iridium -Mass: 1.5 -Price range: 4.5 - 12
Sector Ores (Palladium, Titanium, Adamantite, & Quantium) -Mass: 2 -Price Range: 6 - 16
Tips: *You can not profit from trading artifacts *Avoid trading during wars. Always check diplomacy before trading *Silicate 3 - 8 is more profitable than Adamantite 6 - 12 despite silicate increasing in 5 and adamantite increasing in 6. This could go for any material depending on their mass and how much you can carry. You’ll make 2x more money selling silicate than the sector ores at the same price range.
