(warning, near vertical text wall ahead)
So im not musically gifted in any way-which I know a lot of you here are-but I really do enjoy taking a look at the music I listen to in very great detail. As im sure ive made quite clear here I listen to mainly progressive metal and djent, a sub genre with bands that release many concept albums that tell a story or portray some sort of meaning (typically one that deviates from the generic emotional personal narrative or manuscript on current issues and politics).
Personally I find these lyrical concepts and themes very interesting and many of them can be traced to actual study done on a certain topic whether it be philosophy, biology or astronomy and astrology. And so that leads me to my question: If I were to periodically write analysis of some of the lyrical concepts in certain albums, what they mean and how the music ties in with them would you guys be interested in reading them? For some I may write a very short condensed analysis with the help of other already published but more in depth explanations and for others id go into much greater detail working primarily off my own interpretations.
Many people listen only for the music but I thought it would be interesting to bring the largely unexplored dimension of the lyrics into play as well. Even some non metal fans may enjoy these as the lyrics across an album often play out like stories. |

You know what you do when you're not musically talented in any way? You play folk-punk. That's what I did. It's funny because I'm only kind of joking.
Anyway I highly related to the OP. I'm not very musically gifted but I love music, specifically for the lyrics. I wish I could write like some of my favorite artists. Oh what I'd give to write a lyric as poetic as John Darnielle.

| Ok so it seems like some of you are fairly interested so I will write one up soon. I'll probably begin with artists and releases I am familiar with and possibly work up from there. I won't publish these on a regular basis because sometimes it takes me a while to catch on with the topic but you can expect to see one this week. I love discussing this stuff but I usually have no one to do it with |
