The whole ''showing the butt thing''.
People complaining it was degrading yadayadayada.
Dunno man, it was covered and no skin whatsoever. But whatever. |

I like to call it the Anita Sarkeesian approach to gender dynamics and game critique.

One person even claimed that Tracer's body was unrealistic to female standards.
You know, even though I know plenty of women with a body like that.
I'm gonna say something really rude now. But if certain people were to move their hips as much as their fingers on the keyboard, they might find out. |

@ferry
In a very stylized game that has sentient gorillas and equally unrealistic male body proportions, I don't see how that's an issue.

Also, compared to some of the female character designs I've seen in modern media, the ones in Overwatch are actually quite tame.

I'm surprised that it's Tracer that's got them all worked up and not Widowmaker.
Not saying that Widowmaker needs all this nonsense but just stressing a point. :p |

| It isn't even an issue compared to say how almost every goddess in Smite had an hourglass body with barely any clothes until Bellona. (I'm not counting Athena since she had high heels, like ???) Or how we can have monstrous gods like Raijin or Anubis but can't give Bastet a cat head or make Arachne an actual spider. |

Or how we can have monstrous gods like Raijin or Anubis but can't give Bastet a cat head or make Arachne an actual spider.''
The reason why many goddesses have hourglass figures is the same reason why many of the men are hulking masses of muscles, because they're godlike. That's literally it. Freya and Aphrodite for example are goddesses of love, so their alluring bodies are hardly a surprise. And there are plenty of goddesses that cover their skin such as Chang'e, Amaterasu, Artemis, Nox, Skadi etc etc.
Because Smite's actually basing their characters on sources from mythology. Sure there's some elements thrown in for the sake of an artistic expression in video games, but it's a pretty reasonable portrayal of the gods.
Arachne's more well known portrayals (Like Gustave Doré's illustration for Dante's Purgatorio.) showed a woman with the legs of a spider, hence the whole half woman half spider thing. Aside from that, it helps recognize the character's backstory etc etc.
Bastet's previous model actually had a cat head. Not sure why they changed it. That said, her current model's head is still feline if you look at the eyes and the ears and all. It's not that far off.
Anubis is associated with the afterlife and mummification, a more menacing appearance helps point that out.
Raijin is depicted as a monstrous figure because again, that's how sources from mythology often depicted him as. A demonic looking spirit. Though he was a god of lightning in Shinto religion and Japanese mythology.
As for Athena...well her having high heels is pointed out in her voicelines as one of the /joke emotes. So that's that, it's mostly satire I would assume. Athena is often depicted wearing a helmet alongside a dress with a spear, so I think that's where they got their idea from.
This guy has it all covered. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiPZFPYhmzs |

"This guy has it all covered." i swear to gods if that's the damn game theory video
you can't reference mythology and act like smite is accurate considering a lot of what they do is taken from pop culture or is artistic liberty (ex: arachne, medusa, scylla, ravana, janus, etc)
"many of the men are hulking masses of muscles" bacchus? kumbha? zhong? khepri? cmon we can have a fat woman cant we or a giant animal or something i was hoping jingwei (new goddess) would be a giant bird but nooo she's pretty much a harpy
"showed a woman with the legs of a spider" naked from the torso up makes sense in the 15th century but not now
"Nox" that VET tho
"pointed out in her voicelines as one of the /joke emotes" the only jokes she has is how crap liberte is compared to the card art and her russian accent |

I don't like how while the male gods in Smite come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, the females only mostly come in one shape and size, with the only exception being Scylla. And even then she's still humanoid.
This isn't the only time Hi Rez did this kind of stuff. Look at one of their other games, Paladins. While the males come in diverse shapes and sizes, the females are only distinguished by hair style and what they're wearing.
If Smite was 100% lore accurate, Hades would be a bearded man and not a lich thing. Janus would not be a robot. Chronos would not be a humanoid clock. In addition, Ares, Apollo, and possibly other male gods would run around just as scantily clad as some of the female gods, if not, naked. |

I go on the Smite official forums, and rumor has it there at Jing Wei will look like an anime magical girl with wings as her default skin. |

| It's actually confirmed that Jing Wei will be an anime magical girl. Jeez, we already have a female god that panders to anime (Bastet), if not two (Neith.) |

@vaporeon,
as a person who watches anime and hates the anime skins that one ninja nemesis skin makes me cringe more, if not, equally as much as the kawaii pop bastet skin
like christ hi rez if you want anime skins make some quality stuff like princess mononoke awilix or something
or just dont make anime skins at all and give us some god damn lore accurate skins, the one for ammy that was based on a painting was really good for a tier 2 |

I don't like anime myself, never did. :p
Never said it was accurate, just reasonable. Given the setting of the game and its overal art style, I personally don't really expect it to be accurate, which I'm okay with. As for the men...I said many, not all.
Hel for example would have half of her body portrayed as a decaying corpse. (Which would be really freaking awesome btw. Hi-rez, skin pls.)
Giving it only a few minutes, I can only think of one goddess that would be commonly portrayed as chubby, which is Gaia. Probably missed a few.
As for Athena...totally gonna buy Red Star though just because it remains hilarious with the accent. If only they gave a Scottish skin for Tyr then I'd be all set. |

"Gaia"
also tawaret
i saw this god concept for gaia where she has armor plates that fall off for her passive and she can pick them up for increased stats or empower abilities and such
hence, i'd like gaia to be armored |

Oh yes, Tawaret.
Who doesn't want a hippo to assist your wife with childbirth? Thank the gods I don't want kids.
Jokes aside, I'm surprised they haven't added Pan or something. Naked dude with goat legs and a flute, I'd worship the hell out of that. |

| Or Ammit. She's a quadruped demoness who is part lion, crocodile, and hippo. Also the lion-headed Sekhmet. Hathor was sometimes depicted as a cow, too. |
