It's because you also need to indirectly understand the person you're helping

I can't explain how it feels to have a tail because I've never not had one, for example

languages are, tbh, probably one of the most complex things ever, so what i did say did have a point to it, i mean they are naturally developed by a great number of varying human brains which are the most complex systems we have found in the universe by far

If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.

you cant even deny that linguistics is a more complex and harder to solve subject than something like physics which is regular and mathematical af

Okay, firstly, let's search up the definition of rhyme.

rhyme
rīm/Submit
noun
noun: rhyme
1.
correspondence of sound between words or the endings of words, especially when these are used at the ends of lines of poetry.

Through, though, and thorough don't have syllables that correspond of sound.

Also, op, just because words look the same they don't technically rhyme. You usually have to break things down to the syllable level for rhyming.

Also, even if they words are exactly the same they still rhyme. It's called an identity rhyme. So technically, bike and bike do rhyme.

through. though. thorough. tough

through's origin is germanic "Thurh"
though's origin is germanic "Theah"
thorough's origin is old english "Thurh" you see same as through's old word...
tough's origin is germanic "toh"

it's because the old forms of these words may have had different pronunciations that we still clung to, yet the spelling became more simple as we became lazy

aluminum you are no linguist lol
you failed to thoroughly explain why they dont rhyme even though the four words end in the same three letters and have similar letters otherwise
why do you deny that language is gonna be one of the more complex things in the universe i mean
theres no doubt something that naturally developed as a byproduct of many human brains is gonna be more complex than things like physics

"it's because the old forms of these words may have had different pronunciations that we still clung to, yet the spelling became more simple as we became lazy"

then why did people decide to spell them the same way
i swear english has the most complicated phonetics to writing system of all time

@pie

yeah yeah i know
the thing that we all must learn from english is that
you can't expect to mold several different languages into one and not get issues

english is literally a mesh of german and french, with dashes of spanish, italian, latin, and other languages
this means that we pronounce the words that we steal from other languages, as they would be pronounced in that language
take ricochet for example. it's french
if i were to pronounce ricochet as it would be pronounced correctly in ENGLISH it would be "rick-oh-sh3t" (it doesn't like that ._.), yet it's realistically pronounced "rick-uh-shay", because french
this concept rolls over to THOUSANDS of words in english...

@aluminum

the difference between linguistics and harder sciences (like physics, mathematics, etc) is a machine can precisely calculate physics, mathematics, etc, for us, while google translate will always be crap because language is far too complicated for machines
