I don't know what gun it was, but my grandfather used to have a really rare Japanese rifle. Only about 100 of them were made. He had one of the three in the US. Alas, he sold it sadly.

@Cud I'd assume so, it's been kept in pretty good condition however I think it's a last ditch rifle, so it probably wasn't well made in the first place

actually, I think it's not a last ditch rifle as it has a metal buttplate, during the end of WWII the type 99 had a crude wooden one as metal was needed for different things

I just learned that the bayonet isn't rare, however the bayonet's scabbard is fairly rare also it's massive, a 15 inch blade with the bayonet attached it was nearly as tall as me

My dad didn't know the name of the rifle, and my grandfather and my family have never been that close, so I'm not really going to go out of my way to call and ask. The best I can tell you is that it was a test version of a rifle.
