Blender is probably the easiest choice. It's free and easy to navigate. It has a built in animation engine, 2 rendering engines (more are downloadable online), a compositor, a video strip editor (not nearly as complex as Sony Vegas but it gets the job done), and it is very flexible as it runs in Python. See these links to see what can be made with Blender:

If you do decide to get Blender, check out these tutorials:

Or you could not listen to me and crack C4D. Either way, it doesn't affect me.

One more thing: if you get Blender, you better have a lot of RAM (at least 4GB). Blender is RAM inefficient if you import a big map. I also suggest you stick to Blender Render if you don't have a graphics card (otherwise, use Cycles).

@Kingzaire16 You're stupid. The virus either came from a false "Blender" download link, or you have too many toolbars and crap extensions installed. Download the OFFICIAL Blender program at blender.org, nowhere else.

Blender is free, Cinema 4D is not. I've used both and I would defiantly say Cinema 4D is more professional, but if you are starting off I would try Blender first.

For beginners its best to use blender, its very easy and once you get the hang of it, you'll be very good in animations or be good. Cinema 4d is for experience animators, use blender for a bit and switch over to C4d, thats my advice!

As Cookie said, use Blender for a bit before getting something like C4D. I've used Blender for 2 years and I'm only now thinking about upgrading. Also, there's no reason for you to say "I don't know how to use Blender" because I linked tutorials above.

I've found blender to be far less intuitive to a first time beginner in comparison to C4D.
With C4D most of the actions you will need are only require a few clicks on the UI, however you can be quite limited to what you can do - directly out of the box with no COFFEE usage.
Speaking about the UI, Blender's can be quite clustered - this has alot of pros and cons, pros being you are able to do much more and have much more freedom, Cons being that a beginner could feel overwhelmed with the amount of information and tools on display.
C4D's UI is less clustered, but again has pros and cons to that, pros being that a being the user will be less overwhelmed, but a con that it could take a slight bit longer to actually find the exact thing you want to achieve. (Having to click through a variety of buttons and windows.)
At the end goal I'd say start with blender (Because it's free and there are loads of tutorials to watch online), and if you are serious about animation, it makes for an easier transition to an industry standard application like Maya - (Which is used by most major animation companies).
If you're only going to be doing animation as a simple and quick hobby, and you have enough cash to spare, I'd go with C4D. |
