So on the side of my dads shop which is pretty much his yard, the ground caved in and a hole appeared. My dad saw the hole, went over to it, dropped a rock in there and after a few seconds passed it finally hit water which was weird. He had a friend come over to investigate it and he had to use some gear with a rope to get down, and inside he said it was a concrete box with an arched ceiling with water at the bottom. Now ever since then the guy who owns the property started filling it with dirt since it was dangerous and the giant hole had nothing in it but some water. 5 truck loads of dirt and still going, anyone have any idea what this was used for maybe?
I have an idea, but I'm not sure if its right. The Great Flood of 1862 hit the area of where my dads shop is, and originally there was an army base or something set up there. I was thinking it was maybe a bunker and the water at the bottom was old water from the flood? What do you guys think?
tl;dr: A giant concrete box with water at the bottom and an arched ceiling is underneath my dads shop, and I want to know what it could be. |

I was going to say sinkhole but since it has a floor and ceiling, it gonna have to be a fallout shelter.

It more than likely actually is a bomb shelter
They used those in either WWI or WWII, forgot which and had country wide evacuation plans (assuming you live in America) |

@Cybrrrr
The flood happened in 1862, so this had to be built years before that. This is in California btw |
