How does the amount of planets affect the chance of life?

The chances of an Earth-like planet are far greater the more planets that there are, if there were only 100 planets, one could devise that the chances of an Earth-like planet are far less than that of the chances if there were 100,000 planets.
It's simple statistics?

If I were to take a sample of 1000 people on Earth, the chances of there being a person of colour (so not white) is lower than the chance than there being a someone who is White.
However, if I took 1,000,000,000 humans, there would be a far greater chance of there being a hispanic, african american, etc. There would still be less, but there would be a far higher chance.
It's not really the same principle as coming across someone who is Hispanic or African American, is far greater than that of coming across a planet with life, but meh.

life obviously exists
heck, theres water in our own star system
but what about advanced life? there are billions of planets that definitely have bacteria and other life supporting materials
but are there any advanced organisms that thrive such as the ones on earth? are there any that have taken to the stars?
there are millions of species on earth, and only one has managed to do this

All that's required for life is Water, it only takes a tad bit of mutations and natural selection to get advanced life xD
But yeah, for once I agree with you Zach.

when people refer to aliens of extraterrestrial life, I think they usually are referring to alien on earth, which is highly unlikely unless they have somehow bypassed laws of physics or come up with special solutions to distance like wormhole generators or distorting space ect like we theorize is possible.

Precisely Goku,
Can anyone honestly say that there is a
1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 : 1
Chance of there being life on a planet?
Or, that out of 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 only 1 of those planets have life?

its just that the distance is even larger than that number and we'll never in a million years get to them (literally)

| we only know of 1 planet that supports life in all the universe. which means we don't have enough data to make this argument. earth could very well be the only planet supporting life in the universe |

its kinda of mind boggling just to think about that |

Observable universe*
And the Hubble telescope has witnessed a few "Earth-like" planets, that is, meeting the criteria to be Earth-like, such as being the optimal distance away from their sun or being of around Earth's mass/size.

| but we still don't know if there are other conditions than just those required for life. we literally only know of 1 planet where life can exist. there could be a trillion factors unique to the earth that means life can exist, that never occurs anywhere else in the universe |
