Oh yea. Sure. Lets All just laugh at people who would risk their lifes in which they can only get once, to save us all, because they think we are more important than they are. Lets just laugh and laugh and laugh, and when they all quit the army and the US is defenseless in war, we will all cry and wish that the idea had never came up.
That is literally the dumbest childish disrespectful un-thought idea I have even seen in my entire life. And I though my classmate saying "5+5= 23.99231" was the dumbest Ive ever heard. |

Why risk your life to save others when you can just save yourself though

People who die to save others should really not be insulted. Yes, they may not realize what they are doing will actually work but either way we should hold respect for them.

| Because saving others means you have an ability of humanity and you care about others. Somethings its just the noble thing to die to be able to protect your family and friends. Maybe even thousands of other people. |

| He thinks he's quoting me, but only because he can't read. I do not know who he is actually quoting, and I suspect that no-one ever will. |

I have high respect for people in combat, mainly because my dad was in the army for several years before he was injured during a tank drill accident.

I was mainly joking. But I do think our current state of morality is a bit weak. Hurting anyone under any circumstances is rejected, which shouldn't always be the case. But that's the beauty of subjectivity, I guess. Everyone's got their own morals, and they have the right to.

Sure, our culture is becoming oversensitive. However, there's a line between hurting "MUH FEELINGS" and actually harming someone. That line may be hard to place, but it exists, and should be respected.

You seem to actually care for how wise and heroic people are to die to save you. I support and respect you. |

Let me just start off by saying that I agree with LAWS prohibiting violence (or at least initiating it). If they weren't in place, everything would be absolute chaos, so those laws are completely reasonable. The moral implications of violence are what bother me, though. I could go into all the little details that get on my nerves, but that'd take all day. Physically harming someone, while it's respectably prohibited by law, isn't always morally incorrect. Even if you're the one initiating it. Especially if you're initiating violence as a preemptive.

I think the only time it's appropriate to use violence is in response to violence or threats to violence. Say, you see someone being attacked or mugged, or you are the one being attacked or mugged. And even in those situations there's a reasonable limit to the violence you should inflict.

@RPG
Thank you.
I also have a couple of friends going into the army and another going into the marines.
While I consider myself a pacifist and believe that war should only be a last resort, I still respect these men and women for what they do.

No, I think being mugged at knife/gunpoint does warrant you killing your attacker. You can't be sure if they're going to kill you or not. In a situation like that, I'd be perfectly willing to kill a mugger to save myself. In any situation where your life is at stake, I thing that drastic measure is completely justified.
