I think that ROBLOX is making an extremely bold and risky move by transforming itself from a socializing game to a purely games-only platform. ROBLOX doesn't seem to realize that there already is a platform that does solely games, and in fact does it better than what ROBLOX will ever accomplish.
Socializing is a huge aspect of ROBLOX because the younger audience that plays ROBLOX stays on ROBLOX because they find new friends to hang out with and talk to. If I never developed a network of friends to hang out with back in 2012, then I highly doubt that I'll still be around on ROBLOX because I quickly grew bored of playing cart-ride games. In fact, until sometime around 2014, I spent most of my time on ROBLOX playing on personal servers with my friends.
You may ask, "So, what exactly is the connection between friends and this removal of tix?" I'll break it down:
>No tix = extremely limited options for customizing your avatar as a NBC player
>No avatar customization = no personalizing your character.
Having avatar customization helps you distinguish yourself from other players, make your character feel like "you", and makes you feel a more concrete connection to your friends, who have their own unique characters.
Now, you may be thinking, "Well, many ROBLOX games offer different character customization options such as buying hats using the currency in that game."
The problem is, having avatar customization directly linked to the ROBLOX website allowed you to have an universal look on ROBLOX. Having different appearances in different games can be very confusing and frustrating for those that want to look a certain way.
---------------
So, how exactly does reducing friend bonding and socializing on ROBLOX *affect* ROBLOX? Like I mentioned in the beginning, the reduction of socializing reduces player engagement because they don't feel a *connection* to the website. Once I found friends on ROBLOX in 2012, then suddenly it became difficult to leave ROBLOX because then I would be leaving my friends behind.
This update will, in the end, reduce the amount of new players that stick around on ROBLOX. Since ROBLOX hasn't been putting an emphasis on new players entering game development on ROBLOX, it'll likely take a while for high-quality games to start filling the front page in abundance.
I speculate that ROBLOX will begin to collapse with this new change of focus and return back to the socializing aspect in the future.

You know I never thought about this. Making roblox much less expressive can only be a bad thing.

Sorry for the extremely long word wall. I just had to put out my thoughts and explain why socializing is so important to ROBLOX's stability.

Lacking a few important details, such as Character customization will not be removed, since many games will be able to add hats and clothing for free that are gainable by getting achievements in-game, as a result, being free. Only certain players that get these will get to wear them (therefore being unique).
However, your overall point stands strong.

@Austin:
Having character customization on the website, not in the games, is better because it makes your appearance universal on ROBLOX, allowing you to make a stronger connection to it. People develop certain outfits that they keep for a long time on ROBLOX. Taking this away from NBCers is a very bad idea.

Sorry, I don't think I explained that the way I meant to.
Roblox will be allowing game developers to create items in the catalog that can be redeemed by getting achievements in-game. Like sponsored events, but Roblox Users will b e able to create them. These items will be on the actual website as well as ingame.

This is an excellent example on why removing tix is not a good idea.

After reading the brand new Q&A in the blog post addressing our concerns, I feel much better about the change, but I'll still bump just to keep the discussion productive.
