Nothing wrong with feeling attachment to well written characters
It's one of the beauties of writing and storytelling in my opinion
Sure people go overboard a bit with it but it's not like that's doing any harm in the world |

maybe i skipped the boring exposition but they aren't really that good in undertale, they kind of just appear then stuff gets revealed |

In our brains, empathy lives in a little lobe called the right supramarginal gyrus. When we interact with other humans, we use ourselves as something of an emotional yardstick to try to figure out how they’re feeling. We read their body language, tone of voice, facial expressions and use our own internal experience as a gauge to guide our interactions with them. What’s interesting is that in studies where this part of the brain was disrupted, participants reported finding it increasingly difficult to not project their own emotional states onto others. This, of course, is something that we all do to some degree, particularly if we’re stressed or trying to make decisions more quickly than our gyrus can handle. (1)

i dont understand people who actually cry over asriel the redemption of asriel is just so shoehorned in its like "DIE" "NO WAIT I LOVE YOU AND I LOVE PLAYING WITH YOU" "*WHINING WHINING* I LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"
and then people start crying when frisk hugs him despite there being no REAL character development or anything

because they're able to elicit an emotional reaction most fictional characters are written to be relatable in one way or another as well as to be inspiring to those who watch/play as them/etc
you can't not get attached to someone that you'd like to be like or can relate to |

Undertale is just more of a cult thing I guess
Game seemed like it was aimed towards tumblr communities. Those groups of people would easily relate
Haven't actually beat undertale though so I don't know lol |

| it's called empathy. fictional characters resemble real people. you feel bad for real people, why not fakes? they're people, aren't they? |

"i get all of you guys, but isn't it just healthy to be sad or happy or w/e and not cry actual tears"
some people simply "feel" emotions more strongly than others it's healthy to be sad or happy or w/e and not cry actual tears but its also perfectly healthy to actually cry actual tears over things you've made an emotional connection with whether they be fictional or otherwise
maybe you just don't feel emotions as strongly as some others do i know i don't |

i imagine it would take you longer to form those connections if you have lower "emotional intelligence"
that's the actual term for it by the way, which is hilarious
