[ DEAR MODS: This is not a hate thread. Rather, CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. There IS a difference.]
http://wiki.roblox.com/index.php?title=Xbox_Submission_Guidelines
Go ahead and read through their list of requirements. Some of it seems EXTREMELY restrictive!
"NO paid access Every game on Xbox One must be playable by whoever wants to play. Access can be set in a place’s Configure page under the Access tab."
This one was my least favorite.. What if I made that new MLG COD 1337 and it was absolutely amazing? No paid access? I'm guessing this is a technical issue, but really... Paid Access is a really cool thing, because you could charge 6000 robux == $60, like a real game. If it was good enough. I just like Paid Access because it's similar to real games, and you have a sense of ownership of whatever you buy, especially if you paid more than 100 robux.
"Avatar Appearance Override (if appropriate) If your game uses non-default character appearance (such as custom models, inserting packages/shirts, etc), then you need to make sure this flag is set to true in the game’s configurations" Maybe this is a technical thing, but this is a bit odd.
"Game Description - NO links" I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure xbox games and PC games all funnel to the same place. What if on PC I want to include a link to a guide, but it's not allowed on Xbox?
"Game Icon -Must look good from 10 feet away on an HD TV Xbox users typically sit far away from their screen, much further than someone playing on a computer or mobile device."
This is good advice, but then again, this should really be up to the developer to be smart enough to do this.
"Must have at least 3 thumbnails"
The same as I said above, but it really should be up to the dev to do whatever they want. More importantly, if I wanted to make just 1 cool looking concept art, kind of like th game Destiny has, and nothing else, I should be able to do that. A standalone thumbnail. Some games that works better.
As for the rest, like I said, it shouldn't really be a requirement, but up to the developer to do what fits best for their own game. (Aside from basic stuff, like sizing text right). |

No ROBLOX game is ever worth $60. ROBLOX games aren't even close to AAA games. The reason why Paid Access isn't allowed is because ROBLOX is being advertised as FREE on Xbox One. Your ROBUX doesn't carry over from PC to Xbox One, you have to buy it separately. The games library is already limited as it is, they don't want to include games that aren't actually free into a limited game library.
"I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure xbox games and PC games all funnel to the same place. What if on PC I want to include a link to a guide, but it's not allowed on Xbox?"
Links aren't accessible on Xbox One. If you want links for your PC users then make two copies of your game - one for PC, one for Xbox One. It's really simple.
"This is good advice, but then again, this should really be up to the developer to be smart enough to do this."
Are you serious? ROBLOX wants to be taken seriously and professionally on Xbox One, they're up against AAA games. They need good icons.

Same as what I said before. They want to be taken seriously whilst up against AAA games on the marketplace, they want to show off the game was best as they can.

There are requirements for a reason. If you don't want to put in the effort to meet them, then don't bother making your game Xbox One compatible.

Let me make this clear: I am all for making the games professional. I just think that their requirements are a bit stiff.
"No ROBLOX game is ever worth $60. ROBLOX games aren't even close to AAA games. The reason why Paid Access isn't allowed is because ROBLOX is being advertised as FREE on Xbox One. In the near future there will be games that are good enough to be worth $60. Just depends which developers put in the effort. I don't have roblox on xbone, so I'm not sure about the robux stuff.
"Links aren't accessible on Xbox One. If you want links for your PC users then make two copies of your game - one for PC, one for Xbox One. It's really simple."
Obviously links aren't accessible, but making two separate places is my worst nightmare for a game for a few reasons.
"There are requirements for a reason. If you don't want to put in the effort to meet them, then don't bother making your game Xbox One compatible."
Every game is setup differently, and more flexible rules might help. |

It's because of 2 reasons: 1. Microsoft has standards for Xbox games 2. ROBLOX has standards too, so the games must be presented professionally and look as polished as possible. |

Maybe in the future, but definitely not in the near future. Even then, you've contradicted your original post.
"Obviously links aren't accessible, but making two separate places is my worst nightmare for a game for a few reasons."
I can't think of any reasons so why don't you list them for me?
"Every game is setup differently, and more flexible rules might help."
Not every game is meant to be on Xbox One. |
