Well let's pretend for a moment that I am an angsty 12 year old. Do you have an answer to the question?

"Some do, others call themselves "otakus"."
When they say that, do they mean it as good or bad? Like what do they think of themselves? |

| "otakus" don't consider themselves weebs and say they just watch anime, however you'll notice they're also weebs and even identify themselves as a member of a community with a japanese name. |

weeaboo is usually considered derogatory, though i have seen people who watch anime but aren't really weebs refer to themselves as such. i'd argue they're actually different from otakus, as they behave differently - where as weebs could be described as very loud and obnoxious anime fangirls, otakus are more quietly obsessed with anime and Japanese culture. they also typically take anime and themselves much more seriously than weebs.
otakus also tend to be older than weebs - weebs tend to be preteens or teenagers, where as otakus tend to be in their late teens or even their twenties - and i'd say they're probably more antisocial than your average weeb. |

otakus are basically just weeaboos who came up with a name for their collective
i have yet to meet a person who watches anime and isn't a weeb to refer themselves as an otaku, it just sounds dumb |

im a weeb and i embrace it
俺はウイイブです。
i am learning wapanese
short version of weebs:
real definition: someone willing to throw away there own culture to become japanese
my definition: someone who just really is interested in japanese stuff like anime, manga, and plan to go to japan one day.
short version of otakus:
japanese definition: geek. (in japan, it is looked down upon to be one.)
ppl should only call themselves an otaku if they actually are speaking japanese, its not a very good loan word. |
