Following the addition of this bill the Mayor would receive the authority to create and enforce Municipal Orders for the following reasons.
A. Municipal orders can be created for the following reasons: 1. To regulate a city-ran department or city-ran service. 2. To enforce federal laws being disobeyed by city government employees. 3. To set employment regulations on any branch in city government. 4. To enforce activity in the city government and services. 5. Any situation not violating this bill, not violating federal laws, being allowed by the City Council, and being allowed by the federal government. B. How Municipal Orders can be repealed 1. Public outcry on a public forum and approval by a final Development Council override. 2. A vote in the City Council that receives the majority vote against the order. 3. An injunction from a federal judge against the municipal order for violating federal law. C. Restrictions on Municipal orders 1. Municipal orders cannot be enforced upon the federal government or federal government employees. 2. Municipal orders are not meant to remove the job of the federal government. 3. Municipal orders may only be enforced upon the city government, private sector corporations or public services that operate within Las Vegas. D. In the event Municipal orders are being abused 1. City Council can restrict the Mayor's ability to create and enforce Municipal Orders with a vote from 7/9ths of the council. 2. The City Council can vote to impeach the Mayor for violation of federal laws or misuse of municipal orders. 3. The Development Council can override the Municipal Order with reasonable cause. |

This bill is a clear attempt at allowing the mayor to have power over private companies and their doings. Besides this seeming to be not legal, I cannot support the notion that some local government head can have a say in how I run my businesses.

If there is a team at LV that is very inactive, their team can be removed democratically and NOT by just one mayor (who may potentially be abusive or plain awful).
Do any of you really want the mayor to have this much power? Historically teams that were bad have gotten removed after a period of time. Giving up power to a single person like that is not only foolish but a scary prospect. There is no way I would dare let some random elected official who has done NOTHING for any of my companies come in and say "Hey you need to do this or else"
I know most other LVCC here do not know about the nuances of owning a company in NUSA, but the reason why the private sector is so great is because we are not bogged down by some authority figure. Each company is free to operate legally and prosper or fail.
As your council president, I feel very confident from my time in owning businesses and being an agency director that OUTSIDE CONTROL by a mayor who could be an absolute moron is NOT how a good business runs. |

Come to think of it, is this even legal?
Mayor: Hey fire this kid in your business Business Owner: No, I have the right to hire and fire whomever I want Mayor: Okay, you're fired!
I...don't think that's how it works in real life.
Part of the reason this bill was purposed was to hopefully make sure activity in the private sector at LV stays high, but if you can't legally remove the head of a business, all you can do is remove the team from LV...
....Which we can already do as a council body and not just the Mayor |
