A train 1000 yards long travels through a 3000 yard tunnel. Thirty seconds
pass from the time the last car has just completely entered the tunnel until the
time when the front of the engine emerges from the other end.
Determine the speed of the train, in miles per hour.

so the train was already 1000 yards in the tunnel and after 30s it traveled 2k yards since the front of the engine emerged from the other end? so 2k/30s?

2000 / 30 secs = yards / sec
66.67 yards / second is traveled by the train
convert to miles per hour
3600 seconds in 1 hour
66.67 yards * 3600 yards / hour
1760? yards per mile
(66.67 yards * 3600 seconds ) / 1760 yards / mile = miles / hour
