trying to make SD's new fort as fun as i can so far i have: -mountain access, but nerfed to the point it isn't horribly OP but needed -helicopters hopefully -8C like raid system

Multiple ways through. Of course, you have to have choke points to make it interesting, but there should always be an extra passage to get through a large area.
Having balanced weapons is always good, giving your team better weapons just proves that your group can't fight.

also location of spawns and objectives are important
spacing too close or too far would make a map slow/fast
its up to you how you want to pace a map's speed, majority people prefer "arena shooter" (Quake, Unreal, RCL) style fights.

Be careful with heli's.
Both in my experience and going off of VAK, unless you have a clear cut method for them to be destroyed they end up being very OP. |

8 Chamber sis VOID's old fort You took a bomb and carried it to the bomb site and planted it The timer would tick and if its recapped by defenders you gotta start over, you had like 10 bombs Obviously the timer was rather low. Im considering 900 seconds/15 minutes

We will not have a VAK like heli. Both teams will be able to get them and they will not have weapons, they will be able to be destroyed

Not sure if I'll be able to add a jeep but I don't plan on making vehicles that can do damage to people, just transport.

Slight advantages to defenders are fine.
Also... back to the helis, just curious but how big do you intend the map to be? Because if you're going for a small fort, I'd ditch Helis. They'd be pretty pointless and just ruin the immersion at that point. |

A lack of complexity; simplicity is what people like, believe it or not, hence the success of Apple Inc and Microsoft (only after they took Apple's advertisement schemes).
I would much prefer a capture the flag over capturing one terminal to unlock another or whatever 8C is -- you can see why I like simplicity.
In regards to aesthetics, make it spacious, large, but not too large. Make it have things to look at, distract somebody and intrigue them. Much like that fort that TSD used to have, Swampy Moon Outpost, or the old TSG fort; all with separate areas and regions. This not only increases strategical interest, but is generally fun.
Do not go for the simple 'quick' fort unless you intend for your fighting to be 'quick.' What I mean is Indigo, RAT Celeste. I used to like RAT Borealis because it was a mix between quick and spacious, but the raiding system was Daedilian.
People use quick forts to raid quickly, and as such there won't be as high a player count. People use spacious forts to raid stealthily, strategically, in large numbers: there will be a higher player count.
