practice like you'd do anything else. look up tips and guides. don't bother with 'step by steps'. start off using a pencil on paper, but it's worth it to get a decent drawing pencil. you can probably get one for less than 5$, but even mechanical pencils are better than the typical no 2s. study what you want to draw. study from life and not other people's art until you get the basics down. try crosshatching don't try and make big, good finished drawings to begin with. start by making quick and small sketches until you understand how form works.
what specifically do you want to draw also, don't start with stylized drawings until you can decently conquer realism. not photo realism, but don't start by drawing anime or something. |

look at your own hand or photos when you're drawing. always focus on proportion. You can even practice drawing in a more comical way to learn proportion first. experiment with different things.
I'd say that looking at good art is usually good.
Though i hate seeing people constantly posting pictures of just okay drawn faces or eyes, those tend to be good reference points.
But don't try to copy if you can. Original face shapes and experimenting is good. |

If you wanna draw humans or humanoids, then just draw some simple shapes. You might have to ignore all the lines, though. But for the joints of the body you could just draw little circle thingies, and then for the chest and torso you could do like a bent-over square or something. I learnt this off of a video I found right before my own computer desk became an Art Studio, but I can't find the video I found.
So just draw some simple basic shapes until you think you've mastered drawing humans and then just go from there. |
