First thing's first, you won't get a reply from me by flaming this post. I ask for an intelligent conversation in a non-hostile environment. Look at the facts before you go and add your nonsensical opinions. This is my reply to the Kanye West is terrible thread.

Yes, I understand a lot of people hate Kanye for his personality, he comes off as a jack... you get the point, and I do too, but let's not talk about his personality, I'm talking solely talent-wise. Kanye West is THE MOST influential artist this generation has seen. He's helped influence the new generation of Rap and Hip-hop, he's also influenced artists in the R&B genre. He's helped artists manifest their greatest pieces of work. It is only facts that he is one of the most influential artists of our time. Any album of his you look at (excluding Yeezus because yes, it was mediocre) has been praised as great. College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation, 808s & Heartbreak, MBDTF, and Watch the Throne have all gone platinum. No terrible artist can do that, and to call him terrible is calling yourself in denial. His works don't solely consist of the average girls, money, and fame, but behind almost all of his albums, there's a story. A story of struggle, resilience, and passion. Look at 808s & Heartbreak, that amazed the audience when if first came out because it wasn't happy and joyful Kanye, but a more realistic, saddened, and heartfelt Kanye. That album alone is considered to be the #1 influential album today. It gave new generation of rappers an idea of speaking out on more sensitive topics. It made them realize the hip-hop audience loved raw emotion.

My point is, nearly all of your favorite rappers today wouldn't be what they are today if it weren't for Kanye. Kid Cudi? You can thank Kanye for almost all of his beats. Kendrick? He idolized Kanye as a kid. Same for J. Cole. Same for a lot of other rappers in the game today. So to call Kanye terrible is to be foolish and blinded by your own sense of opinion because of what you see of him in his characteristics. If you can bring yourself to look passed that, then you'd understand how Kanye reached his claim to fame, or self-entitlement of being a God. He has engineered rap music to what it is today.

Eh I am sorry, I don't really think he's that great. One, the f**ker can't sing. He's openly admitted it and has been able to make good music beside that. BUT! At a big festival performance he did, he tried to sing Bohemian Rhapsody. YOU DONT DO THAT IF YOU CANT SING! IT MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE AN A** AND IT MAKES YOU LOOK ARROGANT! ESPECIALLY SINCE HE SUQED! THAT PERFORMANCE SUCKED! I like Kanye's music, he's a good musician some of the time. But honestly, he isn't THE most influential musician of our time. One rap and R&B aren't the only popular genre's. He's alright, but he isn't amazing. I don't hate him at all, not even for his personality (as long has he aint killing babies I don't give a s**t).

That's his issue, he is one arrogant mf, that's what turns me off to him but I purely like him for his music. but to say he isn't the most influential is idiotic. I don't know about rap and r&b not being two of the most popular genres, but if not they are up there most definitely. Kanye paved the way for the new generation of artists.

In some ways yes, but in some ways he also set some bad examples (not action wise I couldn't care less). He basically showed you don't need to know how to sing to be a successful singer. JUST FIX IT IN PRO TOOLS! And that is one of the most dangerous parts of music right now, the fact that talent is optional in pop culture right now.

Who gives a f**k if he paved the way for new artists, he isn't that great. He can make great music, but he can also make really bad music (Bound 2).

T-Pain made that evident years ago man, where've you been at? Lil Wayne has even proved that. and for Yeezus, he began that album with the intentions of an experimental Kanye album. He said it wouldn't be anything like his past albums. and bound 2 wasn't even that bad man. It was probably one of the better songs off Yeezus. Stop hating and accept the fact that the man is the greatest artist in the hip-hop realm.

The greatest artist in the hip hop realm. If you mean today, there isn't much competition (at least artistically). You got Drake, who can be ok but usually is very meh (except for in Marvins Room, that was brilliant). Theres lil wayne who, oh jesus he should just stop trying. Theres Kendrick Lamar who definitely can stand toe to toe with Kanye. But I can see what you mean, I don't hate me so don't say I am a hater. I just don't love him, some of his stuff isn't bad, I love heartless (despite the auto tune). I guess I can see what you mean that a lot of todays rappers idolized him, which is fine. But he isn't my cup of tea. But then again I am a rock person, and I think hip hop needs like 2 more Kendrick Lamar's until it's a viable artistic platform again.

Drake's slow beat, high-toned sung songs are what annoy me. I like IYRTITL and I hope views is more like that. I listened to him back during comeback season and thank me later but I couldn't bring myself to enjoy it. Honestly though, I agree Lil Wayne needs to stop trying but I believe Wayne is also up there in the greats, everything Carter 3 and prior are masterpieces. Kendrick will be on Kanye's level in a few years, same goes for J Cole. They're both amazingly talented artists but they don't have the experience that Kanye has had. I'm looking forward to what they bring to rap though.

Kanye's also won like what, 21 grammies? And yet there's a lot of people (like master) who still thinks he's crap. And you don't need to be a "singer" to make it big in the music industry. Master, you aren't making fun of Daft Punk when they use their various machines to create the android voices they sing with in a lot of the songs.
